Wheatley placed on IR

The Patriots announced the following transactions today:

Rookie CB Terrence Wheatley has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

TE Tyson DeVree has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

Rookie LB Darrell Robertson has been signed to the practice squad.

The news on the injury front just keeps getting better and better.

Robertson was a DE who projected to a possible 3-4 conversion OLB; he was a teamate of Guyton last year at Georgia Tech.

So where did he come from? Was he on a P-Squad or just sitting home baking cookies?

At any rate, if he's in the same category as Guyton, let's get the lad suited up ASAP!

at what point does this cross into 'ridiculous' territory? How many people can one team have on IR/Out for an extended period, and still be expected to compete?

This is starting to get depressing...

Wheatley IR isn't much of a surprise. I thought he would have been IR'd immediately based on the injury. (Though I held out hope ...)

One of Wheatley's concerns coming into the draft was being injury prone.

Am I the only one who see's "David Tyree" everytime I read "Tyson DeVree"?

Interesting moves all around, well Wheatley was sort of in the cards but otherwise very interesting indeed

Is Wheatley going to have a chronic problem with that wrist? I understand he has a rod in there and it broke during a college game. I saw his hand dangling and just wondered, will that thing ever be right?

If he can come back, you have to remember that linebackers tend not to worry about having a heavy, hard blunt object attached to their arm for some reason.

NFL Draft Scout actually had Robertson projected in rds. 2-3 (they had Guyton at 4-5), but he went UDFA to the Cowboys, was eventually cut by them, and played a little in the CFL.

Bot surprised...he had surgery...AND it means that there are probably OTHER injuries forcing this change...Watson/Thomas... ones we have NOT heard about...OR they know DeVree can make catches and will get him in as a target for Cassell

He might in time be a player...Draft SCout also mentioned a Jason Taylor type player...more in teh way he could play outside and rush the passer....

Now three of the seven draft picks have gone to IR.

Still, this is one of our best draft classes in a while, especially if you include Guyton and Green-Ellis.
