Last year people loved to bash welker...

1. Hes playing w/ Brady

2. Moss/Gaffney/Watson/Stallworth opened it up for him

3. He has the 3rd cb on the team or a lb or safety covering him...

after the jets game...what can u say?

Welker had another 7 catches for 100+ yds....and he had them off of Revis, one of the better CB's in the NFL

Revis has repeatedly shut down Moss, and welker owned him

if i am not mistaken, agaisnt the jets, Revis was on welker, not a safetey, not a LB

Law and a jet safety were on Moss, and the other CB on gaffney/watson, and then welker was one on one w/ revis

ohh, and btw, he has a QB who didnt start since college throwing him the ball

Welker is the best slot reciever in the league, and he is also one of the best recievers in the league period.

I think Moss, Welker, Gaffney is a fantastic triple threat and after Thursday, I'm curious to see more Sam Aiken.

You mean Cassel? He didn't start in college (Palmer and Leinart).

Welker's great because Moss is always dounles covered. Welker gets to run the short cut and slant middle routes which are high percentage completions that why he getting the ball a lot.

He's great for the Pats system. Not sure how good he would be on another team without any pro bowl type receiver drawing double coverage.

Well he had 67 catches for 687 yards with the LOLphins in 2006, and that was with the three-headed monster of Culpepper, Harrington, and Lemon tossing the football. :)

I f'kin love Welker. I think we need to give him all the credit instead of sometimes wondering how he'd do without teams trying to stop Moss.

The guys the best slot reciever in the league and he'll get open regardless because he's a talented football player. Sure having one of the most gifted recievers in football helps take some heat off but Wes, IMO would get it done anyways.

I'm anxious to see more of what Aiken can do as well!

Wes Welker is one of the best utilized WR's in the league. He's also very physical and has great timing, field vision and always gives 100%. I would love to have him as a reciever if I was a QB.

Man, I've had some head trauma and memory loss (really) but I can't remember people bashing Welker here. All I can remember is all the excitement about landing him, especially after Belichick (and Rodney chimed in too) explained one of the big reasons for picking him up was that when he was with Miami, he was one guy we could just never seem to cover... many times having to double-cover him.

i didnt expressly say here...but look at these responses...

Moss was getting double covered by two of the worse db's on the jets, and the best DB was covering moss

so its a fallacy that welker excel's as he does b/c of the double team on moss

Welker's performance on the field defines his worth as a player. He's valuable.

He is not one of the best WRs in the league... but he absolutely is THE best slot WR in the game. He is practically uncoverable out of the slot, and is a unique weapon to an offense.

Hes uncoverable b/c defense arent used to devoting significant attention to defending the slot position. B/c of this unconvential offensive weapon... defenses have to play different than they normally would.

Great hands, explosive in and out of his cuts, and a very SMART player. He is limited physically, and he isnt good playing on the outside which is what prevents him from becoming one of the best all around WRs... but he is easily the best slot WR in the game... and a great weapon to have on offense.

Really? Last year I owned 2 Pats jerseys. 1 Brady and 1 Welker. I think a lot of Pats fans recognized what he brings very early on.

Welker is the NFLs best slot receiver

Before the Jets game, I thought I heard the announcer state that Welker was the first receiver to have 6 catches in each of his (games). Not sure how many games they were referring to, but I guess you could add another one to that record.

Very few receivers can cause trouble if double-covered. Moss is one up to a point, but only if he also has a great QB throwing to him; this year he's been thoroughly shut down when double covered.

So the standard is how dangerous a receiver is when single-covered -- and on that basis, Welker is VERY dangerous.
