Look at some of the threads:

1. Should Patriots sign Cassel instead of Brady
2. Cassel has arrived
3. Lombardi says Cassel should be franchised if Pats want to keep him

Even the Cowboys were cautious with Tony Romo about signing him to a megadeal. They wiated to see consistency in his performance over a year and a half before investing megadollars.

MC still has some major flaws in his game.

He is not a top 10 quarterback in this league and probably not top 15.

When he has had 5 more games like the last one and has led a team to the playoffs then we can "crown him"

Yet people still can't spell his name correctly.....

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

point well taken...from now on he is MC to me

"...probably not top 15." So that would mean the Pats 'might' have 2 of the top 15 QB's in the league under contract currently? You know, for arguments sake.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

I can't remember if I have made a comment about any of the Cassel threads so I may as well make this my first.

Come on man.

Cassel, I love him, great qb, will be a real good qb for any of the teams that need him. Keep in mind Cassel making the throws and the reads, not the system or JMD.

Give him some credit people.

Now replacing Brady. A-o-a, not so fast. Franchise him. Yeah, I have no problem with that, providing he continues to play solidly and show improvement and consistency. Has Cassel arrived, well yes he has, according to my definition of 'arrived'. He has shown his talents, has a good arm, makes good reads, is good with the ball, and is a legitimate threat to run (thus pulling in the D and will be to his benefit throwing the ball downfield).

Cassel I like, he has arrived. Replace Brady with Cassel?.....dude seriously....

At best, Cassel is an average starting quarterback surrounded

with good players. If Brady is not ready for the start of the

season, O'Connell will start and show steady improvement just

like Cassel.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Cassel could come crashing down any time, especially when the weather gets bad. But the hype started big time when a former NFL GM called him "one of the best players on the field" whoever he plays and when Shefter talked about the contract he expects, from which I assumed there had been some chat about and that Cassel didn't just make the number out of the air.

The Cassel hype on this board is fueled from non partisan sources outside the board.

Not only good players, but excellent coaching.. how many times have we seen players leave this franchise for another, only to flounder and look second rate???

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Cassel's coming off an extremely well played game. He's currently got a passer rating of 87.3, his sack numbers are way down, he doesn't throw many interceptions and he looks much better under center today than he did in week one. It should come as no surprise that people are feeling good about his play.

Yes, the "Let's move Brady" people are insane, but that shouldn't take away from what Cassel has been able to accomplish.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Matt Cassel analysis from training camp to the present might represent the ultimate manic-depressive expression of this board and that's saying something.

But is it really all that surprising?

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Anyone on this board who think the Patriots will wrangle draft picks from any other NFL team for Cassel is delusional.

He is going to FA and will sign with some team for 4-5 million per year.

Kevin O'Connell will be Patriots #2 next year.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

I'm actually looking back to the game where I said he's not that horrible. Then, why is his pocket presence worse than Bledsoe, I know he can run. Then when the announcer said what I was thinking that they were limiting him to 5 yard throws to Welker because he was shell shocked.

Then he made that throw out of the end zone and started to see more of his short receivers, then actually started to show some fire.

I'm still waiting for the hits Moss and Gaffney in stride for big scores part.

I don't think the worth 10-14 million part comes before that.

.

You seem to think you can predict the future. How about we see how he does in the next few games, before we call people delusional

If he keeps improving, and putting up decent numbers, we WILL get a pick for him. Maybe not a one, as some have suggested, but they will get something for him.

It would help if Gaffney would catch them when he does it.

Not to mention Moss has let more than one get away.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

QB is the most important position on the field for the game of football, and yet i would say that only about 50% (if that many) have a definite player at the position....

teams will give up quite a bit for cassel, u may be surprised...

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Just wait until after Sunday. If the Patriots lose to Miami the "Matt Cassel sucks" threads will be back.

Re: Cassell hype on this board reaches epidemic proportions

Let's assume Cassel will eventually be an average to slightly-above-average starting QB. Even *that* completely justifies the hype in the media as a whole! Starting NFL QBs so rarely suddenly come out of nowhere and become available on the open market. That's why PFT, National Football Post, ESPN, NFLN, etc etc are all talking about it. This board is by no means the only place Cassel is being hyped.
