You guys mocked me for three + years when I drooled over Cassel, and in multiple posts you mock my dislike of Josh McDaniels, but every worm gets a turn. Or something like that.

Yeah, I know the defense let us down Thursday, and I firmly believe that if we had won the toss or if the defense stopped Favre on 3rd and 15, Cassel would have won the game in spite of McDaniels.

So don't bother pointing that out unless you are anal to the point you can't help yourself.

The defense has significant problems they are fighting through. Good for them.

The offense is hamstrung; they are like an army with an imcompetent general. They can win individual skirishes by their outstanding valor, but they will lose the battle every time due to poor leadership.

By all means, shore up the defense. But concurrently, remove the weak link from the coaching staff.

As a minimum, put one of those dog training collars around McDaniels neck, and every time he makes Cassel hand Faulk the ball from a shotgun formation, press the zap button. If it is third and long, hold the button down a LONG time.

Until then, the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz is called plays (nice guy, but straw for brains).

If He Only Had a Brain

From Shotgun run a draw,
It’s called McDaniels Law:
Then run it once again

The defense is going to screw us,
Because by now they are wise to us
'Cause we’ll run it once again

They’re clogging up the middle,
But to Josh it’s still a riddle,
His brain has vapor lock

Don’t throw it deep to Moss,
Or let him run across
Just run a draw with Faulk.

He’s just another nuffin’
His head is full of stuffin’
He causes us fans pain

There’d be a smile upon face,
And we’d be in the Playoff Race
If Josh only had a brain

I dunno. . . . I'd say that bad snaps and fumbles hurt the O a bit more than JMcD's playcalling. . . .

NEM? Is that you? ;)

McDaniels calls a brilliant game in the second half and the same McDaniels bashers come out of the woodwork and still bash the guy. It is amazing how little you guys know about football.

If you mean that Cassel would have won the game in spite of McDaniels that McDaniels had brilliant second half adjustments and did his best to put Cassel in the best chance to succeed. If you mean that McDaniels called a bad game and Cassel carried him, you deserved to be ridiculed and I will mock you some more. You are becoming Tweedle Dee to maverick's Tweetle Dum of the McDaniels Basher's Stupidity Express.

I would vote this as the worst thread of the week, but maverick's predict McDaniels' plays thread beat this one out.

McDaniels is the Marino or Peyton of offensive coordinators. Good OC, puts up pretty stats, horrible in big games and is a choker.

Yet another clueless thread.....

Hey Tweedle Dum. Yep! If the Pats didn't have McDaniels, they could have scored a drive at the end and brought that game into overtime.

Before you go into your typical rants of stupidity. McDaniels had brilliant second half adjustments. Called a crucial game tying TD at the end of the game. Threw down the field to Moss. Wasn't conservative in the red zone in the second half.

You'd think the Pats didn't have 511 yards and score 31 points on offense with a Weis-like final offense drive to send the game into overtime. At least this game will expose Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum as biased McDaniels bashers who can't see the forrest through the trees. I am starting to think they are worse than NEM on this.

Actually I agree the second half was great. Good adjustments overall, the dumb shotgun draw on 3rd and 5 and the moronic shotgun play on 3rd and 1 aside. This loss is on the defense.

But speaking generally, McDaniels is the Peyton or Marino of OC's. For the past few years, and years going forward, there will be hundreds of threads from Stats-obsessed Colts-like-fans defending why we have never won a championship with this guy.

Ok, you think McDaniels is one of the greatest OC of all time? Again, you should really think before you bash the guy when you compare him to guys who are top 5-10 at their position of all time.

Is this the same Josh McDaniels that called the plays for the only
team in history to go 16-0 in a regular season?:confused::confused:

If so, Brady though he was great, BB has nothing but praises for him,
I've read his interviews and know he is quite smart.

Ok, before I get sucked back into this again. Neither maverick nor spacecrime has anything to offer other than cherry picking one or two plays out (one that was right out of Charlie Weis' book of halfback draw on third down) of 76 offensive plays last night. To bash McDaniels after last night, is just silly.

You have been sitting on this for a while haven't you? Be honest, you had it typed out and ready to post for months?

I try to be objective and sometimes am not thrilled with the play selection, find me one NFL fan who agrees with every call their team makes and I will show you a kool-aid drinking, waste of breath, no life, live in momma's basement homer.

Some perspective, last night Watson fumbled without being hit, Cassell over threw Moss on one maybe two sure touchdowns, Gaffney had another drop and a botched snap set up a 2nd and 35 yet despite this they had over 500 yards of offense.

Last year the offense had almost 600 points, and set almost every record in sight.

This year he is working with a QB who hasn't started a game in 9 years, without his top 3 RBs and had to hold on while 1/2 the O line was gone. Yet the offense is still progressing.

Good grief, what does I guy have to do for some respect? It is like Red Sox fans who bash Tito, if he doesn't 'bunt'. Look at the big picture, McD is doing a very good job. Can he improve? Hell yes, just like we all can.

This is ******ed, a bunch of aging, overweight, balding guys sitting at home and talking on a messageboard think they know more than a professional coach who's acceptable to Bill Belichick. These are the same people who know how to fix our economy, make our world safer, and make the damn best hamburger you've ever had... and they're more than happy to tell anyone and everyone how much they know. Geez, I don't get this smart until I've had 3 or 4 glasses of Scotch.

Don't forget he was the guy who called the plays for the HIGHEST SCORING OFFENCE OF ALL TIME.

I guess "what have you done for me lately" is the prevailing attitude for the people who need something to whine about. But sure, it was all JM's fault that he blew the snap, that made Gaffney drop another ball, that knocked Moss off his route, that made Watson fumble. Of all the things the Pats did wrong yesterday, someone has to blame JM??? Get a clue people.

Josh McDaniels deserves an awful lot of credit for Matt Cassel's emergence. I'm sure the mentorship of Tom Brady and the brain of Bill Belichick aren't hurting either. To not give these guys around Cassel their due, and most specifically to not give due to the OC who is designing and calling the plays - and to even somehow suggest Cassel is winning in spite of him - is one of the most laughable suggestions yet. I'm no McD homer. I like the guy, I think he does a good job, but part of me will always be partial to Weis. But the young OC has more than earned himself our praise, no doubt.

I'm neither overweight nor balding. I never drink more than 2 scotch's at the very most. One usually suffices to screw up any posting.

I think Josh has his occasional problems but he's better than Weis who was good. Charlie was FAR funnier to listen to in the old Smithfield summer camp days. Hated Patrick Pass.

Now, Josh's vs. Charlie's entertainment value is something we're all qualified to give our opinions on. But as fans, even as brilliant fans, we have absolutely know idea how good Josh McDaniels really is, there are too many factors mashed together to see what the lever is. Only someone on the inside, say the head coach, can make that call. I'm sure most of us would give up our jobs to be NFL OC's... yet nobody's banging on our door seeking our services... I wonder why.

JM didn't call the best game, some very iffy 3rd down calls, but he's pretty far down on the blame list for last night IMO. We did score 31 points with no ST help and just one TO (which I believe we still started in our territory). Overall can't fault the offense aside from Ben's inexplicable fumble and the bad snap, neither of which is under Josh's control. We could've put 40+ on the board without those.

Only looked brilliant because of his ineptitude in the first half.

BB's been saying we need to turn drives into TDs instead of FGs, yet all our drives are the same when we reach inside the 30 yard line. Run, run, screen/draw, then kick the FG. The pattern is obvious. Last night, in our first drive, on 3rd and 5, I posted, "this will be a draw" and it was. The Jets stacked the line and Faulk got dropped. If I could see that coming, you don't think the other teams D coordinator doesn't see the trend? It took for our team to be down 24-6 before finally McD opened up the offense and stopped calling a conservative game.

I don't know if they think they can win with FGs because they think our defense is stout, but that's not the case. It's not 2001 and we're not going to win a lot of 16-10 games. The rules are now skewed towards the offense, specifically receivers. Good teams will be scoring in bunches. It's time for McD to realize this.
