A coin-flip and a Gaffney drop away from 8-2

Not bad, we gift wrapped two games for the Colts and Jets and to think how easily we could be 8-2 right now. If that coin drops heads last night, there's no doubt in my mind Cassel wins this game.

A David Thomas personal foul and a Gaffney TD drop and we walk out of the RCA Dome with a win.

I will take my chances with Cassel in the playoffs.

There are numerous things that cost the Patriots points in both games.

The Patriots may only make it in as the Wild-card, but that makes them the underdog. And they like being that.

Maybe we should learn how to get off the field on 3rd and 15. That's been killing us for a while now.

Maybe the Pats start putting 12 men out on 3rd and 15? Maybe the refs don't catch it, and worst case, it's a 5 yard penalty without the automatic first down.

(Just kidding, of course...I think...)

I would actually settle for Meriweather to be more aware of the first down marker and try to engage the receiver before he gets almost over the marker.

We have not gotten the breaks this year. We deserved to lose to Miami and SD, but outplayed Indy and NY and lost on very unusual plays and calls that haven't gone our way.

Just in the 2nd half last night, without thinking too long about it:

- Watson fumbles on no contact
- shotgun hike when the qb isn't ready
- horrible call on Vrabel
- no call on the Moss overthrow when the CB yanked his arm down.

frankly i really dont believe in this logic. We have won so many games where the other teams played well . Then we called it 'finding a way to win' . We lost in indy and yesterday similarly. it all evens out. if gaffeny had caught a TD , what is there to say that manning wouldnt have hit wayne for 80 yard tD ? hypotheticals are always fun because we look at one side of the story but believe me , even the pats have benefitted in the past from dropped TD's and coin flips.

You are what your record says you are. ;)

The good news is, if the Pats take care of business in Miami next week, they're likely tied for first again at 7-4 as the Jets probably lose to the Titans.

A win the next week vs. Pitt and it's 8-4 and the all-important tie-breaker with the Steelers.

From there, the schedule gets much easier. Hopefully the Jets drop a divisional game or two, and the Pats can still take the East.

Next two game are very critical though.

I'm not worried about not being able to stop them are 3rd and 15.

We're defending there with Mayo, Sanders, Merriweather, Guyton and Woods.

Those 5 kids aren't seasoned enough yet to play perfect defensive football especially against a veteran like Favre.

We had to be good and lucky to prevent a field goal after the coin flip. We weren't.

I maintain we were hurt by the flubs instead of the predictable defensive mistakes.

No points out of penetration deep into Jets territory, Watson fumble, Koppen snap to Cassel, penalty for holding on Vrabel.

Those screw ups kill me.

And, one thing really kills me. I expect referees to make mistakes during a game. For instance, missing Favre's grounding and calling it a tipped ball is perhaps understandable. refs, like our defense, make mistakes some times.

But on that first drive, how in the world did the booth overturn the call on the field? Yes, the receivers feet were down, but (and I replayed this in slow motion on my DVR) his one foot came up BEFORE he caught the ball. I guarantee you he had only one foot down.

I know the call on the field was bobbling (he did not bobble). Does anyone know if the replay booth would only be looking at whether it was a bobble in that situation? Or wouldn't they also be tasked with looking to see if it was actually a catch (i.e. two feet in bounds)? I'm assuming it's the latter because if it's only the first (i.e. look at replay to see if the field ref's judgement is correct) then you open up a can of worms. A coach would be out there asking ref's why they made a certain call, and they could challenge on that basis.

I think we are going to be 8-8 this year and Indy makes it as a wild card at 12-4 and the Dolphins get in at 10-6. No way we beat PIT or MIA, it's just not happening with this horrible defense. Watching Cassel become a star is quite a thing to see though. I wonder what Brady is thinking now after Cassel's game yesterday, hmmmm

You gift wraped this game for the Jets???

The Jets dominated and were up 18 points at one time.

A half way decent coach and the Jets win by at least 2 scores. If anything, the Jets did everything they possible could to give the game away.

Very true. If you think about it, on the biggest 3rd and 15, there was no A. Thomas for the first time this year, not to mention rookies Guyton and Mayo were out there, and second year player Meriweather was too. It can't possibly be yet, a cohesive unit. The glass is half full though, because while other teams may be successful now, the future is very bright for the Pats. That's alot of young athletic talent.

But, I digress.

A gift fumble and an idiotic Heath Evans dive call on 3rd one squashed a potential 14pts in that 3rd qtr. Those were gifts and the ending coin flip was a gift, because you and I and all of NY Jet nation knows that had that coin landed on heads, you were done. Matt Cassel was tearing up that defense, no question he would have taken the team down and won the game. We shot ourselves in the foot way too often last night. We gift wrapped the game for you. Your defense was worse than ours last night.

I think you can argue both teams made mistakes that could be deemed trying to give the game away, though I think the Pats did more.

What screwed the Jets is they came out geeked up and jumped to a lead, then just got too tight. As soon as they let Favre sling it once it was tied, they did much better ...

The Colts 12-4? Winning 8 straight? They haven't played that well. Their win over the Steelers was a bit overrated because I don't know if they win if they started Leftwich. Roethlisburger playing with the bum shoulder is becoming a liability for the Steelers.

The Pats going 2-4 the rest of the way? They still have the Seahawks, Raiders, a beat up Buffalo, and Arizona at home in December. All those should be wins.

We can't beat the Steelers with the Pats defense? Have you watched the Steelers' offense this year? It is average at best. Roethlisberger has a bum throwing shoulder and has been holding onto the ball far too much. Willie Parker may have an injury that will keep him out of the game. The Steelers are winning solely on defense.

Nothing like being overly negative.

A droped TD pass by Kellar and missed easy Int from Lowery!

We could go round and round

Bottom line great game.

I agree it wasn't giftwrapped, but if the Pats didn't have two stupid plays (the Watson fumble with no one touching him and the miss-snap by Koppen), the Pats MAY HAVE won in regulation last night.

I think the Watson fumble and the Koppen miss-snap are completely different animals, but it was a game where a few plays could have changed the outcome either way. I thought it was a horribly officiated game with bad calls both ways too.

But you have to agree that if the Pats won the toss, they probably score on the first drive. It isn't making excuses because the Pats defense should have stopped the Jets on 3rd and 15.

Well not really, Keller dropped a couple of really easy ones last night. Would have put them out of sight in the 2nd Quarter.then there was the Welker reception against the Bills, he was definitely out of bounds but the Bills didn't challenge. Wouldn't have been 7 up early on if they had.t's all swings and roundabouts and evens itself up over a season (in theory).
