Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

Matt Cassel to Moss TD, down 7 points, on 4th down!!!

Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

Wow, Matt Cassel just drove the team from his own 35 yard line, 1 minute left, no timeouts remaining, for a game-tying touch down.

ICE in his veins.

Over 400 yards passing today too.

Win or lose, a defining game for Cassel. That took some marbles!

Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

Great game by Cassel! We may not win the game, but all the talk about Cassel not being able to bring back a team from several TDs down was just plain wrong.

Can anyone confirm the following? I heard on WEEI this week that if the Patriots offer Cassel $1.5M that if another team signs him the Patriots will receive that team's 1st round draft pick. Not sure whether or not to believe it based on the source.

Nope. Whoever said that is mistakenly assuming that Cassel is a restricted free agent next year; at the moment, he'll be an unrestricted free agent.

Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

I gotta say..... I was never big on Cassel early on, but lately, he's really taken this team on his sholders. He always willed the win tonight, despite some terrible play in all 3 phases of the game.

Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

Cassel has actually shown multiple examples of bringing this team back in the 4th quarter, not just for this game.

The guy is resilient.

Re: Matt Cassel is having a good game

That last play was straight up amazing, a perfect throw on the run to a covered receiver to tie it up with 1 second on the clock, you won't see a better play all year. I jumped out of my chair and yelled "holy ****!", it was that good.

You have to give him a lot of credit, he has gotten so much better from the first game of preseason to now. You can still see a few bits of rookie play and jitteryness but he is really developing into a solid NFL QB.

I still want Brady back, he'd be eating the league alive right now. But Cassel earned himself a lot of money and respect tonight.

Shades of the next Steve Young

We need to sign Cassel as soon as possible. 3 years 8 mill.

The longer we wait the tougher it will be to keep him, if we want to keep him. Franchising him is a dumb move, signing him to a short multi-year deal gives us flexibility to trade but also insurance for Tom.

Indeed. Great game. I took a LOT of flack from my friends for defending BB's decision to go with Cassel. Lately, it's been nice to see them squirm. Tomorrow, despite the loss, ought to be a LOT of fun... heh. :)

That might have worked afer the third game, Mav. Now the high bidder will pony up at least 20 mil over 4 years, half guaranteed, with a 5 mil bonus. If Matt keeps improving, these numbers won't not get him signed.

The guy keeps getting better, so the more we wait, the more likely he is gone and we get nothing in return.

ESPN - NY Jets vs. New England - Box Score - November 13, 2008

At the half:

14/24 passing, 199 yards, 1 td, no int's. 4 rushes for 42 yards.

Good, productive, smart, mistake-free game so far. Just needs to improve red zone vision.

[edit] Finishes with 400 yards, 30 for 50 attempts, 3 td's, 65 yards rushing, and a final drive with no timeouts left, 1 minute remaining on the clock, starting on his own 35, and scoring the game tying TD on the last drive.

He was a coin flip away from 460 yards passing............He was dominant. On that redzone play where he tried to force it in to stone hands Watson, Matt could have tucked it and ran it in. He'll learn from that. He was great last night.

he was outstanding ........;) ;)

Is he one of the top 15 QB's in the league?

The Patriots have an interesting problem that was exposed to the world vs. the Jets. Cassel used the glare of the national TV lights to move from the category of curiosity to free-agent quarterback who could sign for $25 million to $30 million over the next three or four years — Derek Anderson-type money. What's a club with Tom Brady due back next year to do?

this is the best crow i have ever eaten and i sincerly do hope cassel keeps making me eat more until tom is back

The whole thing is interesting because we just blew a high draft pick on O'Connell, which may impact what we do with Cassel.
