They were just talking about it on WEEI. Apparently his docters said that this injury my not keep him out for the season, which is why the Pats have yet to put him on IR! Interesting. I think its just a matter of time and since it was a short week they cold not have done to much with the roster to get a player up to speed. With more time of after this week I bet gets IR'd then.

I don't take anything seriously from those guys over at WEEI...now watch BB officially put AD on IR Today!

There could be some gamemenship. BB puts him on IR and pulls a guy from the practice squad that the Jets have not watched a lick of film on.

Or it could be too early to know if his injury will keep him out all season so BB is going to wait and see. He will have another 10 days before the next game and the doctors will know much more than they could figure out in 3.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

If its Redd from the PS, except for game activation, he may be getting all the reps in practice anyway...there is no rush if there is a chance he could be back.

Too late now, someone would have had to have been promoted from the PS by yesterday to be eligible to play today.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

From today's Globe:

FOXBOROUGH - Adalius Thomas is definitely out for tonight's game against the Jets, but he's not definitely out for the season - at least not yet.

According to an NFL source with knowledge of Thomas's injury, the Patriots outside linebacker had surgery yesterday to repair a broken right forearm. Several reports had said Thomas broke his left forearm last Sunday during the Patriots' 20-10 loss to the Bills, but the source said the injury was to Thomas's right arm.

Two sources said doctors have not told Thomas he is out for the season. The decision may ultimately come down to what the prognosis is for his recovery time and whether the Patriots think it's worth sacrificing a spot on the 53-man roster for an extended period to keep the option of having Thomas potentially ready to return.

That decision could be made as soon as today, when Thomas goes for a follow-up.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

I wouldn't surprised if he came back. Plenty of players have come back from broken arms. Some even within a few weeks of breaking it. An injury like Seau's is impossible to come back from since both bones in his forearm broke. But if it was only one and a plate is inserted, I don't think it is impossible for a fast return (say within a month).

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

Makes sense. Uncomplicated broken bones heal on their own in 6-8 weeks, sometimes faster if surgically repared provided there are no complications. His regular season could well be over but if we made the second season he could theoretically be back. In most cases Bill tends to move on rather than allow his team to wait on a savior, but he has also shown he will wait for a superior talent given a reasonable prognosis. He carried Ty on the roster in 2004 right up to the playoffs when it became clear his ankle injury was more serious than initially diagnosed (lis franc). So if he thinks we have a legit shot at the division AND a 2nd seed bye (giving AD 8+ weeks to get back on the field)... If that changes then maybe his thinking does as well.

i'm a big fan of Holley, but thats about it

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

If true, I'd say potentially having him for the playoffs is worth a roster spot. It's not like Vincent Redd will be the difference of whether or not we can make the playoffs. But Adalius could be the difference between a wild card exit and a legit run at the SB.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

Great news. This makes securing the #2 seed IMPERATIVE.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

I'm hopeful AD is ready by playoff time. If not, I'm all for grabbing Rosie Colvin not as a starter but to shore up depth at the position. He may have lost a step but wouldn't need much time getting up to speed on the schemes.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

Hopefully his follow up scan shows he can return, and we can utilize him in the post season!,Fingers crossed

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

I hope he is back next month.

WEEI interviewed Rosie a couple days ago (i think it was dale n holley) and he didn't seem to think he was coming back

Let's fervently hope that the Docs operated on the correct arm, the broken one.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

Didn't Bob Kuechenberg play almost an entire season for the Phins with a broken forearm in a cast?

He was one tough son of a beach

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

I think it's good news for now..too quick to take a roster spot an dIR him if there were question marks about his return... I think they will wait and evaluate and see...they will only IR him if he is definitely NOT going to return for the latter part of the season..Woods is all set and I HOPE will surprise..but Thomas being out is a large hole...hoping his return maybe after the West Coast trip.

Re: Thomas may be back this year.

My question is ....

Could Adalius have surgery on the arm and STILL be able to come back in time for the first playoff game if they make it or is surgery a definate IR situation?
