I'm with you brotha. We might be watching the development of Brady's replacement. Who knows what kind of condition Brady will be in when he comes back? It won't be the first time that the Patriots replace the starting QB with a backup. I have accepted this. Brady wasn't going to play forever. Maybe it's time to move on. Let the Matt Cassel era begin.

This is a joke, right? Matt Cassel has proved me wrong and he improves each week and I love the fact that he does not LOSE games for you - but this post is riduculous.

There is one very, VERY important question that has not been asked in this thread yet: WHERE THE HELL IS WENDEL?!

But why would Cassel sign a one year deal with us when he could conceivably have a chance to strike a long-term deal while the iron was hot?
(Sicilian beat me to it. ;))

If the Patriots make the playoffs, Cassel is all but gone and I agree with that

But I think the latest injury to our best defensive player may be hard to overcome - now at 4 starters from 2007 on IR - Its getting close to being hard to overcome these types of losses

Bottom line is Cassel is GONE if the team makes the playoffs but I see little in terms of offers or decent money elsewhere for Matt if NE goes 9-7 or worse and misses the postseason

He's probably too busy working on his next "Lock picks" post, where he'll promise at least 20% accuracy.

Just as I thought then that MC's criticism went overboard at that point in time, I think that heralding him as the future king is going overboard at this point in time. :)

I think heralding him as the future king would be premature but I don't think it is premature to say this kid will land a Starting Job somewhere next year unless we can somehow convince to come back for one season for insurance. And you can put me in the category that thinks he will do good for another team too (this kid has talent it isn't just BB and the system).

Ah, so he is busy then. Is Jetslifer available for comment?

I'm just thinking of the future. Brady is NOT going to play forever, and he's just suffered a MAJOR injury. Don't you think it's wise to have insurance? What if he's not the same when he comes back? I think that it would be a mistake to let Cassel go.

Brady will be fine a some point, probably by next August, and when he comes back the job is his. Cassel is a nice player and will be a good NFL starter if he lands with a well coached team. He can't stay here for personal and financial (on both sides) reasons - we have a HOF starter who will play another several seasons. His replacement will come from without or within around 2014. In the meantime guys like O'Connell will have their shot at becoming the next...Matt Cassel. It is what it is, lady.

Another thing that everyone forgets is that Brady's injury was not on his planting leg and the procedures they have for such injuries these days are far more advanced than they were 10 years ago. Quit your whining, people. Tom Brady will be fine.

If the Pats miss the playoffs, it doesn't seem like Cassel will be the cause. I could easily see a team like Minnesota giving him very good money. A QB who makes plays and doesn't make mistakes would fit in well there.

However, if he starts throwing 4 pics a game. That's a lil' different.

I'm a worrier, I can't help it. You should know that by now. :D

Do you really feel that is this team fails to make the playoffs that Cassel will still be looked at as a starting QB and get good sized money?

I think even if he plays as well as he has,the teams success will have something to do with where he goes and what type of money is offered

No one will convince me that if a miracle happens and the team gets to the SB that Cassel would be offered the same type of money as it would be if NE went 9-7

IMO a SB showing would be millions more and a starting job somewhere else to boot over a 9-7 team that would probably only fetch him on the market as a 2nd or 3rd backup QB and much smaller offers

Success means $$$$$

I wish there was a way to keep Matt on board too. Not to get too far ahead but I doubt other teams will have lost their desire to take Brady down:mad:

Obviously Matt's going to do what's best for him and I wish him well but I'm also not above the total selfishness of wanting it all:D

I think Brady will be fine and ready to go but also it might not take much to screw up that knee again. If it happens then we roll with whoever's in back at the time and we pray that guy does half as well as Matt's done.

I was for Cassel all the way but I'm not going to call people out on it I'm just happy with the way this team has rallied so far. The only thing I've been disappointed with is Moss' play so far this year.

I presume this is tongue in cheek?

While i like and support MC and think he is doing an excellent job i will take an 80% to 90% healthy TB over him any day of the week.

I will wish MC well as he rides off into a big payday after this year because he has done it the old fashioned way, "HE WILL HAVE EARNED IT", unlike so many others in the present cash cow NFL.

Matt Cassel has done a really good job at not turning the ball over. Recently, he's also shown the ability to make some good throws that move the offense. This is light years ahead of what he has done not only this past pre-season but in pre-seasons in years past (which has been his only relevant experience that we've had a chance to see). He's clearly a good QB for the Patriots at the moment.

That being said, I'm hopeful Matt will move to the next level - that he'll be able to lead the Patriots to a win (e.g. similar to what TB did against San Diego in '01). So far the expectations have been relatively low and the performance has been more than adequate. We'll see if the progression continues. It will be very interesting to see what happens against the Steelers and their very impressive defense.

anyone one else think that Brady will be 100% and play so good and everyone will be like "wow, he's 100%, what a come back"
