Could more outstanding play of BJGE possibly be Maroney's ticket out of town?

From what I have seen of this young rookie has been nothing short of impressive - He has made yardage out of nothing at times and has taken what the OL has given him and has made the most out of it.

Ben has the vision to see where the running paths are and accelerates to them without much hesitation and uses his strong legs to push back defenders that we have not seen of Maroney when he was healthy - Maroney does not have the vision or straight ahead running style like Ellis has shown in a few games.

IMO BJGE is the future at the RB position and look to be the RB we have wanted for some time although he could all of a sudden hit some kind of wall and become not so good but I don't see it,I see a promising young rookie who has potential to be the starting RB for years to come and what will this team be like in the winter months when/if Jordan,Morris,Faulk and Ellis are HOPEFULLY all healthy or at least at 80% healthy - It would be a dynamic rushing attack which will open the opportunity for Cassel to go long more often.

From what we have seen so far,I think it could very well be time to crown a new RB in Lomo's place and get what we can for Maroney in the offseason.

If at the very least we could see a VERY competitive competition at RB by July - BJGE from his play so far deserves the shot to oust Maroney next summer.

I was thinking the same thing during the game today.

As I have been saying since the start of time, Maroney is made out of glass, he is a poor runner, and it was a mistake to draft him. As proved today, it was not the blocking, it was not the coaching, it was Maroneys lack of skill.

BJGE is a better runner than Maroney and he is an UDFA. Maroney will be forced to earn a spot on this team next year, the pats will keep him until he is up for a contract, then they cut him because he is a JAG!

SloMo Mcglass is finished in NE.

BJGE reminds me a lot of the Jags RB Maurice Jones Drew - Although drew runs with a little more speed and Ellis has more power.

Well Maroney is under a rookie contract and he probably has very little trade value. With the injury prone and uncertain futures of Morris and Jordan, Maroney will be on the team no matter what.

I doubt we can get much for Maroney, he hasn't proven to be the least bit durable and when he has been in he's been far from consistent. We're probably best off just holding on to him and get what we can on the field out of him till his contract runs out. He's still a home run threat and remember how big he was for us down the stretch last season.

IIRC, the draft i terms of RBs went Bush, Maroney, Addai, MJD, and L. White. 4 out of 5 of those guys are pretty explosive in my estimation.

Maroney will get one more year to prove himself. He definitely will not be annointed a starting Rb, but he will compete. His salary does allow him to be a change of pace back too.

I think it's way too early to say that. As for the comparison to Jones-Drew, MJD breaks more tackles. He's a pinball.

I still don't get what the big deal was with Maroney having big games down the stretch - While he played well in the Jags game because the Jags were backing off to prevent the pass he only had another good game against a 1-15 team at that time which was the Dolphins and then became invisible in the Chargers game and SB - I never thought he was very impressive at all last season with the only exception of like I said,The Jags game.

BJGE has not been outstanding, so I don't know where the "more" is going to come from. There's a reason he didn't make the team in front of Maroney, Morris, Jordan, etc... and that reason is that he's not as good as they are. BJGE has benefited from an offensive line that's finally playing the way it should have been all season, just as Morris did in the Denver game before he got hurt, and just as Cassel has.

He's done his job, which is what has been needed. Let's save the rest for the end of the season.

In Maroney's defense, the O-line has been playing much better the last few weeks.

Maroney could go to Detroit, where the Curse Of Barry Sanders renders all Lions running backs obsolete and out of the consciousness of NFL fan's minds.

How long did it take for Maroney to have a 100 yard game?

BJGE has more talent IMO - It has just taken an injury from Lawrence for him to show his stuff on the field and in a REAL game, not practice and yes,The OL is playing much better but good RBs find ways to get free and make thier own holes when there aren't any- Hopefully this will be the case for BJGE in future games.

I am not putting Ellis in the HOF but I like what I see so far and could not say that or feel that when LoMo was in there - -Just my two cents .....

Before the line started to play well, all 3 running backs were struggling. This has been gone over time after time after time. Only the most exceptional of running backs can get it done without good blocking, and none of the Patriots runners, including BJGE, is a Barry Sanders clone.

Actually Maroney was probably the biggest reason we won that game, he had over 120 rushing yards and almost 90 came in the second half when we went to a 3 tight end set and rammed it down the chargers throat with maroney. However, i agree that maroney is extremely inconsistent and if BJGE continues to play like he has then maroney's days as a pat are numbered.

It is too early to annoint Ben Jarvus Green Ellis as the lead back of the future. He is looking good, but people crowned Mike Cloud as the RB of the future after one game too. I don't think you can crown BJGE as the starter yet or give up on Maroney just yet. It seems when the offense line is clicking in running mode, almost anyone can produce behind it whether it is Maroney, Morris, or BJGE.

Why does it matter who is playing on the O-Line or how well they are playing.

Maroney will just run into the back of whom ever is playing on the O-Line and fall down.

Yes. Please. Let this happen.

I've seen all I need to see. Maroney runs fine through perfectly blocked holes and nobody is around. Guess how much that happens? BJGE makes something out of nothing. He gets 3 when Maroney would get -1. Get rid of Maroney.

You're absolutely right, as he proved at the end of last season, when he was running all over the Jets, Dolphins, Jaguars and Chargers.
