What is it going to take to get defensive players to stop going low on QBs? Allan got fined 50K for these hits. No question that these were intentional. How many more QBs have to get knocked out for extended periods of time before the league dishes out some serious suspensions?

frickin unbelievable. $50k fine tho, thats nothing. they have to change the rules to its just plain illegal, with suspensions

Re: OT: Shades of Brady hit, Jared Allan on Schaub

He will keep doing it as long as the league lets him, or until he seriously injures a QB. They ought to eject him from the game the next time he does it. That is the only thing that will stop him. A 50K fine....he laughs at that. Chump change to him.

I've been thinking since Carson Palmer that hits to QB's legs at or below the knee should be outlawed, just like I think no touch icing should be put in to the NHL. (for the 3 of you here that actually like hockey)

I justify these sentiments for the same reason: The best possible result of the play isn't worth the risk. QB's are the marquee players in the game, I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to hit them at all, but there's no need of them being hit below the knee just like chop blocks aren't needed.

The best possible result for a team on a play like that is a sack. Sacks are exciting and all but are they worth the risk of losing your QB for the whole year?

Goodell can set whatever agenda he wants, but I would expect that agenda to have consistent implementation.

Ever work for a company were you get a directive that one thing isn't ok anymore? Then you get another saying the same thing is required to do. Sign of poor management.

According to an AP article:
"A rushing defender who has an unrestricted path to the passer from any direction is prohibited from forcibly hitting the passer in the knee area or below."

I find it strange that the day of the Brady hit, the NFL tells Chris Collinsworth that it was a "clean hit" and they take until Friday to act on these Allen hits.

Looking for more consistency from Goodell's NFl is a crazy thing to do.

A better example is the Justin Tuck fine for the QB hit. FIVE days later Goodell rescinds it, saying " i just saw it and it's not fineworthy" or words to that effect...
1) How does it take you 5 days to see it when it was all over FESPN that day and the next??
2) How do you fine a guy without even looking at the play?????
3) Does he understand why the players are frustrated when there is no consistency??

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't think either one was dirty. On both plays, Allen was on his way to the ground and essentially crawled to the QB. Do you expect him to tackle him high when he's lying on his stomach?

Re: OT: Shades of Brady hit, Jared Allan on Schaub

it pisses me off that there was not at least a fine on the brady hit, the defender was not fighting momentum, he was crawling on the turf and took out bradys knee.

Re: OT: Shades of Brady hit, Jared Allan on Schaub

or that the nfl fined thomas but not the guy who hit brady. what sense does that make? if you hit someone after the play it is a fine but if you take out a qbs knee on a low hit and he is out for the year it is not?

I expect him to do everything but hit the QB in the knees.

So basically, if his only way to tackle the QB is to hit the knees, he shouldn't tackle him? Or in other words, he shouldn't do his JOB???

It's not his job to hit QBs in the knees. Pretty simple. If you don't understand that, you miss most of the discussion.

Not only that, but particularly on the second hit, he clearly leads with his helmet. Nothing good can come of that.
