Dave Thomas fined $7500

that is pretty stupid. losing the game and the penalty is punishment enough

Ludicrous that he was fined for that. This and the Green-Ellis fines are just ludicrous.

Yes, he screwed up. If that was his intention, to level a cheap shot there, then he should be cut from the team.

I suspect he simply screwed up instead.

Goodell needs to go. He's an idiot.

I'm asking because I really don't know. Do they fine every player who gets a late hit penalty or an unneceassry roughness penalty? I'm not trying to defend Thomas here because if the league didn't fine him, his teammates or coaches should have.

Actually, I do agree that the fine is pretty egregious considering that all he did was push a player even if it was after the whistle. That happens all the time.

I don't feel all that sorry for him though since it was a bonehead move and it cost the Pats a shot to at least tie the game.

Sure is. That was a penalty which will get called more often than not so I have no problem with the refs but it's crazy for that to not be a fine. Heck, the guy who ended Brady's season wasn't fined and his play was more dangerous as he was clearly going for Brady's knee.

Should get 7,500 kicks up his ass for not paying attention to the end of that play

this ONLY makes sense if they fine EVERY player (on EVERY team) whenever they are flagged for unnecessary roughness, facemask, etc.

The players union is going to eat this up when they get around to renegotiating the CBA

At least the penalty was called on the field. This crap of fining players for plays that were not called on the field is BS.

The same thought came to my mind. I really can't imagine they fine every player for every late hit. It was a stupid move and you can't argue the flag but I have seen plenty hits come later than that and not get flagged. IMO there is no way a hit like that should draw any attention from the league other than a penalty in game.....Unless of course there was a pattern of behavior which we know is not there for Thomas because he hasn't had enough PT to establish a pattern.

I feel bad for the players that have to figure out how to play the ****ified version of this game. Way to much fining and way to many rules to restrcit what the tackelers can do their job. It will result in some bad football, I imagine it already has but if the restriction continue it is not to long before guys are missing tackles not finishing plays and just not putting enough strength into tackles to do the job. I'll keep my example nuetral as not to bring homerism in but I will be completely annoyed by the NFL if I am watching a game and a play does not end because the tackeler tried to avoid making an "illegall hit" that really would not have been a bad one and instead the play goes on but 3 players are just standing there doing nothing because they are afraid of a late hit and the runner runs by with ease. I think I am ranting so I will stop.

It was a ridiculous fine, but at least they are consistent. I would say that hit was later then BJGE's last week, so the fine should be higher which it was.

I'll be keeping a close eye on late hits throughout the league for the rest of the year. Just so I have something more to complain about :D

One last thing....

Dave Thomas gets fined for an obvious late hit but they deem the Pollard hit legal.

Sometimes I feel like there is no real ryme or reason to how they levy these things other than public preception or trying to control the publics perception.

They don't call the Pollard play illegal because it looks bad if the NFL loses its reining MVP to a dirty play.

They fine a guy for a late hit because it happened in such a crucial moment that every diehard NFL fan knows there was a late hit so the NFL levies a fine to create the perception they don't allow late hits. But I honestly can't remember another Patriot being fined just for a late hit (until this season). Maybe that is something that wouldn't stand out in my mind and maybe I am way off.

Don't bring that name uP!:(

Can Goodell be impeached?:)

What a joke he is. I miss TAG!

Ommissioner Clouseau strikes again!

d%#*!@t, someone needs to do a Photoshop of Goodell in a Clouseau shot for me.....

Pretty steep fine when you consider that John Henderson only got a $10,000 fine for ripping off a guy's helmet, try to stick his fingers in his eyes, and throw a punch.

YouTube - Whitworth vs Henderson

Pretty much, at this point, they are.
