Wilfork refutes report of admission of being dirty player

I’ve officially heard it all from Vince Wilfork. Wilfork issued a statement refuting that report.

It read in part as follows.

“After a very productive and fulfilling meeting with the NFL commissioner, it was inaccurately reported by ESPN that I stated that the hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman last season was a cheap shot. I did not say that. I am not that type of player and would never intentionally try [to injure] a fellow NFL colleague.”

My response is actions speak louder than words and apparently the NFL agrees in light of the most recent fine he received.

Everyone is aware of they eye gouge attempt on Brandon Jacobs (fine), the late hit behind the play on Jason Witten (got a fine), the Losman hit (fine), the Cutler “love tap” with his elbow (fine), the dangerous facemask yank on Michael Turner (fine). But he’s been doing this since his rookie year.

No one remembers him kicking Bills guard Chris Villarrial in the back when he was down on the ground following a Bills field goal attempt in 2003. No one remembers him cold ****ing Jonas Jennings with a helmet to helmet hit from behind, while Jennings was engaged with another defensive lineman on a pass play that left the offensive tackle knocked out cold with a concussion.

A leopard doesn’t change his spots and Wilfork has proven that throughout his NFL career. It’s time to sit him down before he puts someone out of the game for good.

At the risk of being lynched by my fellow Patriots fans, Wilfork is indeed a dirty player. There's just too much evidence that he intentionally attempts dirty plays. Perhaps he has a problem with his temper, but that's just speculation.

Pushing, swinging, pointing at faces are not really dirty. Uncalled for maybe but not dirty. He's a friggin NT in the NFL, he's gotta be angry with all the shots he's taking throughout a game. It's not like he is hitting guys to hurt them, he just lets his emotions get the best of him from time to time. He doesn't really go that far overboard though.

Pollard's hit wasn't dirty, it just happened. Wilfork's may or may not have been dirty, but it certainly appeared more intentional than Pollard's.

I'm not certain why this is such a big issue, though. Football is a tough guy's game. Whining about it on a message board isn't going to change anything. What you're doing here is called trolling and flamebaiting. You need to stop.

Patriots' DVD saved DT Wilfork from suspension by NFL

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was poised to suspend New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork due to his prior illegal hits over the past two seasons, but a DVD from the Patriots' video department helped save him from at least a forced week off this season, sources told ESPN.

Wilfork's wife, Bianca, who joined Wilfork for the meeting, handed Goodell the DVD with a different camera angle that showed the alleged unnecessary roughness on Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler on a play in the Oct. 20 meeting between the Broncos and Patriots may not have been so rough. In the video, Cutler could be seen picking himself up and patting Wilfork on the helmet after the play.

Wilfork did accept blame on his controversial hit against Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman last season that injured Losman's knee. Upon review of the play during his meeting with the commissioner, Wilfork admitted he didn't realize the ball had left Losman's hand as early as it did but said he had no intent to make a late hit, sources said. That play drew a $12,500 fine.

The NFL did not have indisputable visual evidence that Wilfork hit Cutler in the head, as it first believed, but still determined that it was unnecessary roughness. Instead of a suspension, Wilfork was docked with a $35,000 fine.

Vince and Bianca Wilfork wrote a thank you letter to Goodell at the end of the week. They also copied Ray Anderson, senior vice president of football operations, and Gene Washington, director of football operations, who were instrumental in the disciplinary action.

Honestly, if you are going to flat out lie, just leave this site. He didn't admit to being dirty nor did he admit to throwing his elbow at the knee. Watch the damn replay, not zoomed in and not in slow mo. He was tackled from behind, threw his elbow up (towards Losman's hips) and while coming DOWN it hit the knee. He started to throw his elbow towards Losmans WAIST NOT HIS KNEE.

I disagree 100% on Pollard's hit "just happening". As you can see from the link in my sig, he cut Morris' knees and then lunged for Brady. 100% dirty.

Lets get a few things straight.
1) You are a Bills fan.
2) Instead of blaming Wilfork for the hit on Losman, how about you go back and review the play? If you did so, unbiasedly, you'd know that Brad Butlerr actually BLOCKED Wilfork into Losman. That's why the "fine" was reduced.
3) There was no "eye gouge attempt" on Jacobs. Wilfork pointed his finger at Jacobs just as Jacobs more towards Wilfork. Jacobs even said that he didn't feel that Wilfork was attempting to hurt him.
4) The facemask on Turner happened while Wilfork was engaged with an offensive lineman. It wasn't intentional regardless of what the idiot refs said.


You also might want to do some homework. Nearly every "intentional" face mask penalty that was handed out last year resulted in a fine. Because Goodell is fine happy.
