From Reiss' Pieces:

4) Belichick: Trent Edwards would have been on draft radar. The Patriots had traded out of the third round of the 2007 draft while on the clock with that pick, but if quarterback Trent Edwards (who went one pick later in the third round) had slipped further, Belichick indicated the Patriots would have been interested. “We were a little surprised that he lasted as long as he did,” he said. “Had he been there when we took Kareem Brown [in the fourth round], I’d like to think we wouldn’t have passed him up, but …”

My next door pilot neighbor flew in Nam with Trent's dad. Been following the Edwards kid since he was drafted. Knew he was a LOCK to bench the excerable Rob Johnson.

I guess when you have a QB as good as Brady, it gives you that much more room to develop starting caliber backups. The pats went through like 5 before they settled on Cassel. Imagine what they saw in O'Connell that they had to draft him. In the third round, no less.

As much as I'm distraught at Brady's predicament this season, I can't help but be reassured about Belichick's decisions after seeing Cassel's progress. I'm so glad they kept him even after a so-so preseason that was less impressive than his current backups.

And, IIRC, they got that card in pretty quick when he was on the clock. So they definitely liked whatever it was they saw.

Trent Edwards was the last recommendation by the late Bill Walsh before he passed.

J. P. Losman you mean. Johnson hasn't played in the NFL since 2004, much less in Buffalo.

MAJOR senior moment there.

And no, I wasn't drinking. I was supposed to be babysitting though.

P.S. However, the same football sentiments regarding the equally excerable J. P. Loserperson

I love watching Edwards. As much as I don't like the Bills, I can't deny that I think Edwards is going to be a really good QB for a long time.

I hate to admit it but I agree

I think Big Vince had a little to say with Edwards' development....

I think so, also. I don't even dislike the Bills. If we can't win the division, I hope the Bills do.
