Both have looked VERY, VERY impressive in their rookie years and I believe they will only get more knowledgeable and better. What do you guys think about Mayo and Guyton as our future ILB's. Elite?

Clearly Elite!!!
I mean we have so many big games, playoffs on the line, where either Mayo or Guyton made key game winning plays, great open field tackles to stop a possible winning drive, knocking down passes to RBs and TEs, game changing INTs and forcing fumbles. Yes, we now have sufficient information to truly project the duo as NFL elites!!!

Lol lol okay. I'm excited to see what these guys will be like in the future. Don't hate:p

All kidding aside, I like the youth corps. Don't forget young backup OLB Woods and rookies Crable, Redd and Ruud (IR) as other talent to be developed.

I wish we could see what Crable could do, but he's gotta earn his time.

As BB might say, let's not put them in Canton just yet. :)

Seriously, though, I do agree with Pioli on one thing--they should count their lucky stars Guyton was still available as a FA, and he definitely should have been drafted.

I'll just say that they haven't exactly given us reason to be disappointed.

Maybe there is more to learn at the OLB position. The #6 pick in

the 2008 draft has been no ball of fire.

Supposedly, 3-4 ILB > 3-4 OLB in terms of difficulty. OTOH, they have Thomas, Vrabel, and Woods at OLB; I look at Crable the way I look at Dave Thomas his rookie year--he was stuck behind two first-round draft picks.

This morning, I asked a guy I work with (Jets fan) if they'd had a first-round pick this year. The look on his face was priceless.

Jerod Mayo: $3 million/year
Gary Guyton: rookie minimum contract
Pwning JEST fans: Priceless

How about 2 or 3 years in the league first eh?

I like Guyton so far too, but he is really playing only on passing downs, which plays to his speed.

I would bet he has a ways to go to be the next run stopper as well.

(Tell Canton to hold off for now...);)

I think the scarier aspect of this is the fact that Belioli have finally gotten good production from rookie LBs, creating room for developing others instead of having to rely on free-agency for savvy vets. For the first time in... ever, we're not headed for an offseason where the linebacker corps is in need of an upgrade/infusion of youth.

I adding in a reply on another thread earlier today saying just that. I think that Mayo, Guyton, Woods and Crable will be a force in years to come (if they can stay healthy).

Hahaha. Nothing like the Jets missing on another draft! (hopefully it stays that way)

At this point Guyton doesn't even play on running downs. But, yes, pioli did very well at ILB.

Belichick detailed many of Guyton’s strengths, lauding his growth as a player. Later, while answering a different question, Belichick pulled out one of his old favorite lines. “Going back to Guyton for a bit, let’s not fit him for the [Hall of Fame] jacket just yet,” he said.

i think they have tons of upside, but I am hesistant to get too excited just yet. Guyton is performing very well in a situational role, but he has yet to show he is an every down LB. Mayo is still struggling a bit in coverage, but has improved in that area quite a bit. Both have the potential to be stars in the league and Guyton has surprised me quite a bit (I expected a lot out of Mayo so I am not as surprised).

FWIW, Al or John was saying on Sunday night that Guyton could play any of the four LB positions. Don't know if it's true, but so sayeth them.
