Good for Mangina, Favre's actg is getting old. How many times in his career has he just flung it up hoping the receiver goes the other way. Finally somebody told him.

Cable- The Raiders coach had his team practice touchdown celebrations.

That is a good idea. That team needs to learn getting 6 is a lot of fun. That team is close to being good, especially in that division with Denv and SD coming back to the pack.

I am glad to see the coaches stepping up. These teams take on the personality of their coaches. Look at the problems in SD and Dallas. NYJ. These teams are struggling due to poor leadership. Look at the Pats, Giants, Philly. Great leaders, consistently good.

I actually totally agree with him. This is professional football, not High school, embarrassing a grown man for a dumb penalty is not going to win him much support. Tom Coughlin tried this tough guy act when he first came in and nearly lost the team because of it. The difference ended up being that Coughlin is actually a good coach. Singletary should probably prove he can coach before pulling stunts like this. When I first saw that, followed up by his post game press conference all I thought was that this guy is posturing for a HC position with cheap tricks.

I did, it's about Singletary's actions towards Vernon Davis, "calling him out" in the press conference and kicking him out of the game, not just "calling him out on the sidelines" as you falsely suggested. I'm sorry you were so confused.

Singletary is a motivational type coach and you only get short term success at best with that approach. To have long term success you need a program with a solid foundation of identifying good talent, good coaching on the field, and a way to keep players from getting comlacent. Singletary alone doesn't bring that. His guys will stop listening after a while. His press conference was embarrassing - it was more about him than his team, regardless of what he said. He's a modern Ditka, who was a one-trick pony.

Coaches call out players all the time. Hell, it wasn't all that long ago that Patriots fans had one of the most famous "Caller outers" as their head coach. Parcells and "she" is just one obvious example.

True, and I don't totally agree with the person that you were responding to either, but I also think that Parcells has been generally overrated as a coach. He was lucky enough to have Belichick around for a long time, and look at what he did without him (not much). Belichick is the opposite extreme, in that he never calls anyone out publicly, and I daresay that he could pretty much write the book on how to properly motivate and manage players.

Doing it publicly can backfire - notice BB never does it. Just because Parcells did it with Glenn doesn't mean it works.

You want guys to be confident and trust that if they do what you're asking them to do after putting in all that work, you'll be on their side.
