"[The Patriots] are doing a little bit better than we are, but I would say neither of us has played up to our expectations so far.''

I found this to be a dumb quote, for two reasons.

1) Having a two game lead on you halfway into the season isn't "a little bit better". You've been outscored by 13 points while we've outscored our opponents by 21 points. We are in first place in our divison, you are one game behind the final Wild Card spot.

2) Our expectations went from Super Bowl to bubble playoff team about 20 minutes into the season, we're 5-2 with a high school QB.

Please don't slam St. Dungy, It's very disturbing to me.

I'd say after the 1st quarter of the first game of the season, the Pats have played above expectations.

Dungy is crap. When he retires and becomes a sports commentator, he'll be the same as Marshall Faulk - will pick against the Pats every time no matter what the circumstances.

OMG I well tell Tony Dungy "No &^%$" I sometimes wish he just didn't say anything to the media..

Sorry Deb, But I can't see TD as a sports commentator. My first gut reaction would be....he has no personality.

But I may be wrong too. Emmit Smith is getting paid.:(

You are being hyper-sensitive and hyper-critical of Dungy. The wording is not meant to indicate an exact assessment. If you were to analyze Belichick's statements with the same critical perspective you would conclude that Belichick is a clueless idiot.

we're 5-2 with a high school QB.

If Cassel were truly a HS QB he would have been cut in preseason if not before. He was an inexperienced backup. Green Bay is also doing well with an inexperienced backup (one who has almost the identical amount of pro experience, in fact).

I fixed your post for you. :D [Get your propaganda straight! :p ]

Cassel Pro Bowler I dont know about that yet, but if keeps improving every week than maybe

Who said this year? :)

Seriously, though, I'm hoping it happens, if only because it might make Gregg Eastersuck's head explode. [OK, so it's not a Super Bowl MVP. But it might still suffice. :D ]

It was bad enough when the Patriots used a sixth-round pick on quarterback Tom Brady, who'd had a fairly ordinary college career, then turned Brady into a Super Bowl MVP. Now they've used a seventh-round pick on quarterback Matt Cassel, who didn't even start in college. Please tell me New England will convert him into a tight end or maybe a defensive tackle. Please don't tell me he's another future Super Bowl MVP quarterback.

Sheesh you guys always try to slam Polian and Dungy. They have complimted the hell out of the Pats this week.

I think the Colts may have beaten the Rams last week but I don't think the Pats would have beaten the Titans.

Your schedule is soft as toilet paper.

Much like your brain.

He's not talking to the media, he's talking to his team......(indirectly)

Agree.

Dungy has been stressing all week to the Colts that the Pats are playing better and mostly because they are playing much more poised football and making less mistakes and causing less penalties. You can pick on the Colts all you want but the Colts have been playing like the Jaguars often this season, not like they should be playing. We are talented I believe but screwing ourselves often.

In the end, he is right. The Pats have been playing poised this season and he has also stressed several times how the Pats have had to overcome some big injuries so ours should be no excuse.

Dungy is just trying to compare the Colts to their long time rival and he hopes it gets drilled in their heads that the Pats are playing better without Brady than we are with Manning.

Once again, an unsubstantiated comment backed up by a weak assumption and comment from an Indy fan. Let's just call it what it is. The Colts played above themselves for that one quarter in 2006 and won their SB. That's it. their finished. One and done. While the Colts peak has come and gone, the Pats show that they are the best franchise by continuing to win with an unproven backup only to have the best QB of all time waiting in the wings for next year.

heh,

I love it when Greggy Easterbrook gets in a twist.... I can see him sitting at his desk, furiously typing away on an article about another New England victory, all the while consuming a trifecta of Motrin, Maalox & Bourbon.... :eat1:

Man's gotta learn to let it go and move on. Write sumpin' postif about "Eeeaarrrnest Wiilllffford!", etc.

Respects,

St. Dungy , more like St. Gollum

keep showcasing that "Quiet Strength" Tony. You worthless sack of cow turds.

Every call every year in every big game and all you can manage is one Superbowl win. What a pathetic douchebag.

the quote should have been.... "Bill Belichick is doing a little bit better than i am at being a responsible family man"

So far this year, the Colts have played well exactly once in seven starts (31-3 thrashing of the Ravens). And they were competitive in only one of their four losses. They could just as easily be 1-6 right now.

Now I don't happen to think that NE matches up well with the Colts at this point and wouldn't be surprised to see Indianapolis win convincingly tomorrow night. But, if Dungy isn't really worried about how his team has played, then he isn't dealing with reality. Because the Colts haven't played anywhere near as well as NE this season.

great post my friend

Dungy is and always will be a feeling-based coach.

Belicheck, on the other hand, will always be an analytical rational logical coach.

One reason why I always rooted for NE against the Colts. (Im not from NE)
