Cassel getting hammered in NFL poll

Re: Cassel getting hammered in NFL poll.

If you want to vote for Jet, that is your choice. I would sooner poke my own eyes out.

Right, but people who don't hate the jets are going to vote for who they think is the best QB, and Cassel aint even close.

Re: Cassel getting hammered in NFL poll.

Who cares if he is getting creamed? He hasn't proved anything yet. Brett Favre is the best QB in the division now despite his gunslinging ways because he's a first ballot HOFer. Can you say the same for Cassel? The only QB you MIGHT have a gripe against is Trent Edwards being rated so highly. Anyways it's good to keep Cassel humble, because the truth is that he has a LONG way to go in terms of improvement.

Re: Cassel getting hammered in NFL poll.

NFL.com is running a poll.

Who is the best QB in the AFC East?

Cassel is getting creamed.

Vote and change that.

So how is my vote going to change that?

Oh, I see. I'm supposed to vote for Cassel. :D

Re: Cassel getting hammered in NFL poll.

Cassel isn't the best QB in the AFC East. Edwards is, assuming that Brady's out because he's hurt.

Edwards > Favre

Well, neither is Favre. Edwards is the class of the division and then I would put Pennington as a distant second with Favre and Cassel pulling up the rear. Favre is too much of a liability to be near the top. He leads the league in INTs.

I totally agree. I put Favre and Cassel around the same point. Favre when on can do a heck of a lot more than Cassel, but Cassel won't make the costly mistakes Favre does.

P.S. Who cares about a fan poll anyway. People as a collective are stupid.

I'd actually rather have Cassel than Favre, assuming that we're talking about a playoff team. I'd much, much rather have Edwards than either one of them, and I could probably even be talked into Pennington, but I just don't see the value in a QB who turns it over as often as Favre does. You can win the SB with a QB who doesn't make mistakes (Brady in 2001, Dilfer and Brad Johnson come to mind just in the past few years), but you're not going to win it with someone who serves up interceptions.

Why do people care about polls anyways?

If anything, I'm happy people think Cassel is the worst QB in the division and I'm happy when I browse through prediction threads on other sites to see people picking the Pats to lose their game. History has shown flying under the radar is the way to go.

Vote and change that.

6% Matt Cassel, Patriots

42% Brett Favre, Jets

13% Chad Pennington, Dolphins

39% Trent Edwards, Bills

Although this poll is not as important as voting in the AFC defensive player of the week for Richard Seymour

NFL.com GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Week Watch Highlights and Vote

Vote for Matt.

Yeah - the last thing we want is for this team to be disrespected. If there's one thing you can say about this team it's that they don't respond well to a lack of respect or negative comments.

Seriously, I might just go to the poll to vote for anyone but Cassell just to keep that disrespect card rolling. And let's hope they don't have any more major lapses this season but predictably, Harrison and others on the team predictably used a perceived lack of respect to bring the team together and play to their capabilities, if not overachieve given the injuries.

It's always funny to me that so many don't seem to understand this - that to the Patriots, Disrespect is what spinach is to Popeye!

So let's keep the disrespect going and maybe, just maybe, we'll be in a good position to make a good post season run!

Cassel hasnt actually proven anything yet.He could quiet some doubters like me if he can somehow play well in a tough environment like Indy.He is getting some experience with each game.

You would rather have Edwards and Penni leading your team in the fourth Q of a playoff game than a HOF QB?

You are far to biased to form a fair opinion on this.

Edwards is leading the league in 4th quarter passing rating. So yes, I would.

Marino is a HOFers and was arguably a better QB than Favre. Maybe we should get him to play for the Pats. Favre is not playing like a HOFer now. He was directly responsible for keeping both the Bengals and Chiefs in the game against the Jets. He couldn't step up vs. the Raiders. He has had in the last 3 games 4 TDs and 7 INTs. I may take Cassel over the guy too at this point. I don't remember who said it but they said that Favre is keeping both teams in the game whenever the Jets play anyone.

I agree. Give me a guy like Cassel who is efficient, but unspectacular and allow the defense to help keep you in games over a Favre who is wildly inconsistent and turns over the ball far too often that many times keeps the defense on their heels and forces the offense to get out of the gameplan and risk putting the ball into the hands of the guy who put you in the rough spot to begin with.

Why would you want Favre at QB in the fourth quarter of a playoff game? In his last 10 playoff games, he's thrown 2 or more interceptions 6 times, including one game with 6 ints and one game with 4. The year that the Packers won the SB with him at QB, he threw for 10 TDs and 2 interceptions in the playoffs.

Also, Edwards is an awesome fourth quarter QB, and hasn't given any reason to make anyone think that he'll fold under pressure. Considering that a playoff QB essentially has to go three games without throwing up a stinkbomb, I don't see how anyone can consider Favre to even be a 'good' playoff QB at this stage in his career, let alone a great one.

Quick question, to reinforce the point: When was the last time that a team won a Super Bowl with a QB who threw a lot of interceptions? The Giants are the obvious answer, but even then they were able to make it through four playoff games in large part because Eli threw only one interception in that time.

I'd rank him #4 on that list as well. When I see more out of Cassel my opinion may change, and that's what I'm hoping for.

At this point in time I would also rank Matt last. I am hopeful that by the end of November I would be ranking him higher.

Let's not forget it was Favre's INT in overtime in the NFC Championships last year that cost the Packers a chance at the Super Bowl title and probably the Pats chance at perfection.

I would probably rank him fourth on the list. My problem is more the voting at the top than the bottom. Edwards is clearly better than Favre right now and you can make a really strong argument that so is Pennington. Favre is leading the league in INTs and that trumps most of the positive things he is doing.
