PFT: Wifork to be fined, not suspended

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Per the source, Goodell had suspension on his mind heading into the meeting

of course....Jetdell MUST be removed

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Most likely, Vince was able to bring a Patriots "coaching tape" that showed the shenanigans of the Broncos O line to try and justify his actions. I can't think of any other reason Patriot-hater Goodell would have for not giving Vince the boot. It had to have been obvious.

Honestly though, it sets a horrible precedent if Goodell suspended him. I would have been completely shocked if that came down.

Maybe that Goodell listened to Wilfork, and changed his mind based on Wilfork explaining what happened.

Goodell is like Cassel for you guys. You get an idea into your heads (Cassel sucks, Goodell biased) and it festers in there like a nest of maggots. Sometimes things are not the way you thought them, and sometimes things change.

Anyway, the idea that two wrongs make a right, and that it is okay to retaliate, is just plain silly.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Without seeing the tapes, I can't say one way or another if Wilfork should have gotten off without a fine at all or had a life time ban from the NFL.

Nor can anybody else.

But, I am glad he will be playing against the Colts.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Wilfork's a smart, well-spoken guy. I'm sure they talked football, and I'm sure Vince showed genuine regret about his actions.

Odds are, we're seeing fairness at work.

Also, to fuel the straight up Rojerk Twatell haters, he has to show more diplomacy going forward if he wants to save the league forking over dough to implement an arbitration system.

Whether Goodell is biased is of little account for me. The issue is competence. Well, more to the point, the issue is his lack of competence.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Flawed analogy...

first..I NEVER said Cassel was a bad QB...quite to the contrary..I was and still am more than willing to give Cassel the time he needs to develop into a good QB, which is what he is doing.

Jetdell is getting WORSE as his tenure continues...he's a kneejerk, Napoleanic bull in a china shop.

He IS a lifelong Jets fan

He IS a former Jet employee

He DID meet with Mangini the week before the Jets/Pats opener last year

He DID overlook Mangini's use of TWO cameras on the field versus the Patriots that BB asked him to remove.

He did DAMAGE the reputation of Bob Kraft, Bill Belichick and the Patriots organization with his obscene fine and forfeiture of a 1st round pick

He did sit by like a deaf mute the rest of last season as the media viciously attacked the Patriots from all sides, culminating in the rash of outright LIES vomited nationwide the week before the Super Bowl.

His Jet history is a BLATANT conflict of interest when it comes to handing down "decisions" concerning the Jets chief rival in the division. He should have left the "spygate/lie-gate" in the hands of an independent arbitrator.

The only thing "festering" is his rotten leadership of the NFL.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

Maybe Vince threatened to poke his eye out :)

How is Goodell getting better?? I AM surprised because I really thought he would give a BIG suspension..and I wonder if this is the proverbial good news.. ONLY to have an override in a short bit...I WILL BE surprised if this is true.. Joker is right though...his leaderhip is poor..and it's going the wrong way....AND NOW it seem's the NO SUSPENSION is confirmed PER REISS!!! Glad I was wrong..I REALLY thought Goodell was going to overreach again..

Most likely. I think a large part of Pacman's troubles with Goodell can be traced to his seeming lack of sincerity, couth, intelligence, etc.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

It good that there won't be a suspension, I would guess he was given a warning that if it happens again then he'll be suspended.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

I get a kick out of everyone saying "we got off easy" , "It the Patriots, so of course there was no suspension", etc - When the reality is that NO one has even seen the hit, other than the guys that have the coaches tape.

Freakin' Haters.

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

I think the vendetta talk is over done. The incompetence talk is not. Bull in a china shop is the apt analogy.

You can't make millions lining 200-300+ lb men paid millions up opposite each other and asking them to knock the snot out of each other weekly and then act all upset when they end up losing their tempers or doing just that. That's why they have rules and we call penalties. In egregious cases you level fines. When a player repeats the same unacceptable conduct in game over a period of time you institute a penalty named after him and suspend him if HE persists (of course it would help if even the so named infraction was then uniformly enforced...).

The bull in the NFL china shop has been losing rational perspective on what constitutes egregious behavior in the circumstances under which he is asking these men to perform. He should try spending a few moments at the bottom of a pile of them...

Re: PFT - From Source: Wifork Fined, Not suspended

If on Sunday a colt does exactly the things that Wilfork did, this board would be screaming that a fine was insufficient punishment.
