I'm here for Colts and Pats week

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

Is Manning healthy enough to run the stretch play? I did not see last night but he certainly has not been in previous weeks. They were running tosses and even when they did try the stretch he just couldn't get out there wide enough to make that play work.

If the Colts can't run that stretch play really wide as they have in the past, it limits their play action tremendously. That is where their big plays have always come. They get that stretch working and then Manning pulls the ball back and hits a WR crossing behind the LBs. If they can't run it wide, then they don't get the LBs and safeties flowing to that side of the field.

They've run it a bit more recently, but they still aren't running as much as they normally do.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

I think they are still a half beat out of synch. Missing all those reps in the off season is lingering longer than I thought it would.

Really not what you'd expect from a group that has played together for a while. Any chance Manning's still being held out of practices?

BTW, good to see you as always, Workhorse. I'm sorry to see some of the shine off of this rivalry this season. I've listened to Pats' fans predict that "this is the year it will finally come crashing down for the Colts" for so many years that it's kind of shocking to actually see it happening.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

LMAO, with all your injury excuses your talking to the wrong crowd. Sorry, had to be a **** :-D you like the Colts.

I think Manning and co' will put up a few big plays on the secondary enxt week. I think it's like what everyone said. They're a young improving secondary. They have brain farts and give up the occasional play (which is frustrating) but they hold their ground. IMO, if we give Manning all time to throw they're going to die. If we attack Manning they'll do just fine. All up to the front , man I'm tired of preaching this.

On offense you can see improvement. Neal is getting back up in gear, giving us our line from last year. Yates has been an absolute disaster at RG, I pray Neal starts because surely he'll give your team 2 sure sacks. The running game is better when it's healthy. It's hard to produce a lot when your healthy runningbacks are Kevin Faulk and a UDFA. I think they'll do alright against the Colts, assuming the line holds their ground. I don't really know what to predict them to do because we have yet to see them do things constantly on offense. I would say they'd pound that run D, but they just don't have the bodies to do it.

I think it'll be a close game, absolute must win for your squad. I give each team a 50/50 shot honestly.

I'm not making injury excuses. I'm updating everyone around here on the injury situation.

I agree that this game is a must win game for the Colts, more so than the Titans games. Throw in the fact that it's the Patriots and they should be primed for this one.

Just to keep you informed did you know Brady was injured?

Thanks, I wish I was coming around in a better mood.

Manning has been practicing ever since he came back, but he missed all of training camp and the preseason. I figured they would have been clicking by now.

I don't know that this is a sign of things to come more than some compounding bad breaks. At the time of the draft they had to 300 DTs and after one game neither were on the roster and they had a couple 260 lbs guys. Throw that in with Peyton's knee issue and you get a struggling Colts team.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

I said couple, not two. I was using it as an expression more that literally, so cut me some slack.

Do you feel the Rams and Broncos defense can give you an accurate assessment of your offense? I haven't seen Mayo in the limited amount that I have seen of the Patriots, so it should be interesting to see how that match up goes.

Workhorse - I cut you some slack by not hammering you on your title. Also, unless they've changed the definition of COUPLE, it means TWO.

Why should I cut you some slack? You're a Dolts fan :D

I think that the Broncos defense does not give an accurate assessment of ANYONE'S offense. As for the Rams' defense, it does give an accurate assessment for the plays that were called during that game and for the personnel we had on the field. If we have Jordan back this week, I expect our running game to be significantly better. The Rams have a good front 4, though Little did go down. However, even with Little in there, Cassel still had time to make the throws he needed two. As others pointed out in other threads, Cassel was not at fault for the 2 interceptions that were thrown. The first would have been caught by Welker had he not fallen down. The second should have been caught by Moss. The ball, inexplicably, bounced off his hands and into the arms of the help that the Rams had over the top. I don't expect that to happen again.

Big workhorse fan here...can we trade him for B to B or Pats Lifer?

What's up? Just remember workhorse = good. :D

What do you guys think is going to happen with that Wilfork situation? I caught a little bit of the game that night, obviously missed the Cutler thing, but saw the punch he landed. I figured he'd get something for that. If he does get suspended, how do you think that will impact your D?

No sh!t??? That happen against the Rams? Man, ESPN is really slipping these days.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

1 game suspension...hefty fine...Jetdell will hold a nationwide press conference of course....when it takes effect is the question...does Wilfork appeal? Probably.

I heard instead of a fine and suspension they were going to make him play for the Bengals this week.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

Just how many pictures does Marvin Lewis have on the Cincy owners anyway?

Maybe you could ask how many they have of him to keep him coaching that mess. Mike Brown is an idiot and a disservice to their city and fan base.

Back on topic, did you guys see that the line for the game opened up with the Colts 5 1/2 point favorites? Seems a bit high. It was 4 before this weekend. Did the bookies like the Colts' loss or dislike the Pats' win? I figured it would be less than a field goal. You have to figure the Pats covering will get a lot of action.

This is right up there with the lifetime ban. I think you have to shoot a few people before it's considered.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

Welcome back Workhorse, always good to talk football with a rational fan, even of the wrong team. :singing:

I think it has the potential to be an excellent and hard fought game, although not for the same reasons we all thought it would be preseason. More of a battle of the mid-packs, but regardless of the health, ability and standing s of these two teams, there will always be a rivalry that will make the games special into the foreseeable future.

The Colts passing game was clearly off last night. It sounds like you are putting most of the blame on Manning but I believe that if the receiver can put both hands on the ball they should catch it. There were some blatant drops and tips by most if not all of a veteran receiving crew. Manning did seem to do his happy feet dance even more than usual so maybe something is going on there.

If I were the Colts, I would put massive pressure on Cassel and force him to make quick decisions, something he hasn't really shown the ability to do. Pats o-line is inconsistent and Cassel is a slow reader with a mid-pack release. They have been moving down the field OK but are weaker than they should be in the red zone, too many FG's, not enough TD's. If the Colts can get 6 sacks and a handful of hurries they'll probably win.

OTOH, he's notched a few wins and you can see a dramatic improvement in his presence in the pocket and ability to step up into a throw. The physical ability was always there and the mental side is finally starting to show, he's improving every game and we haven't seen a ceiling yet.

On offense, the Pats secondary is all over the map and with the Colts air game better than most even in a weak year it's the obvious approach. If Peyton and his receivers can get their mojo back they will win going away. If Wilfork gets suspended for being an idiot yet again, that will open up the front line for the run.

Keys to the game for the Pats will be a short passing game to Welker and Faulk, let Moss run a few more of those pitch and run crossing routes when he's not drawing two defenders down the long end of the field, and find a way to keep the Colts scoring low enough to let the offense keep up.

I predict 30-27 Pats if Wilfork plays.

Some of it is on the receivers. I am really tired of the receivers letting the ball go through their hands, especially when it ends up getting picked.

I agree with the pressuring of Cassel. I think that will be the Colts game plan.

Faulk and Welker will kill the Colts if they allow they to constantly get pen underneath. The YAC will add up to 1st down after 1st down.

the spread is a reflection of the injuries in the Pats secondary...three rookies at times against Manning doesn't exactly inspire confidence and when the damnable Dallas Clark is running routes, it could be a long day for the overaggresive rooks. I just can't believ how open Clark was last night on play after play..."here's comes Clark straight off the line....let's just let him run straight down the field untouched and uncovered while we bite on Manning's play action!!"...week after week I see this same play all game long...it's like he's invisible to the secondary or something.

Another thing is the propensity for our D co-ordinator to play vanilla up front with no blitz packages starting the game. It's infuriating. Seymour is playing very well and manned up, he could force Manning into hurries. What I fear is Pees playing his namby pamby zone rushing three and Manning eats it alive early, forcing Cassel to play catch-up. This is ANOTHER tough test for the kid on the road and I want him playing ahead or even to start off.

As punt returner. Hey wait, he can catch a punt.

Re: I'm here for Colts and Pats week.

Still gotta love Indy week. Interested to hear your take on Manning. I've noticed Manning's throws have looked different since (ironically) their SB year. His passes don't seem to have the same pace on them...they just seem to be in the air a loooooooong time.
I noticed that last night, quite a few "wounded duck" wobblers.

Perhaps his knee isn't as healed as people thought?

The Colts D played well enough to win the game, but the offense never got clicking.

Once again bonehead penalties extended a key drive for the Colts opponent. I'm getting confused on whether I'm watching the Cowboys or the Colts. After the Pats no penalty effort this weekend, we can see who's more ready to play.
