Based on points allowed per game, seeing as how points - not yards, win games.

Kudos to the D.

A little too early to tell. Chiefs, Jets, and Rams are not exactly top notch (caught a break playing Jet Favre in week 2). Miami and SD laid the wood to you. Cutler was obviously not the same once he smashed his finger on the first play of the game. D-Line is still pretty good though.

One of the fun things about using young players is finding out your team is improving as they improve. ;)

you mean, the defense that people have been calling old, and slow? The defense that includes Seymour, the guy people have been saying is done, finished, and overpaid?

That defense is ranked 9th? go figure

Old and slow is 20th against the run, I never would have guessed. 4.4 ypc, just like the Colts. All the while not really facing too many true run threats. LT still has it, but I don't think even a San Diego hater would say he was 100% versus Pats. Jackson out yesterday, Donks #1 back was out as well ( although Pittman(?) did well), Ronnie Brown did have a field day. Gore seems to be having a decent year. Anyway, certainly, you have to be feeling good about 5-2, tied for the lead in the Division, with a team that has skills and can improve with time.

SD was playing their SB...
miami introduced the wildcat against us...

i woudlnt take those two games to be too much of a representation either buddy

Sure, other than for our losses, we are undefeated.

The excuse for the SD game is BS but having that stupid wildcat thrown at us for the first time is kind of valid. I would have hoped we'd adjusted faster but sometimes sh!t happens. Other than defending the long ball better, our defense has been strong this year; and most of the deep balls we've been in position, we just haven't made the play on the ball. Still, the defense has been good especially considering the number of young players we're finally integrating in.

Our defense is completely bipolar. Half the time it looks shockingly bad, the other time it gets its act together and plays lights out. No consistency at all.

KC (1-6)-awful
Jets (4-3)-Favre scares no one
Phins (3-4)-Seriously? a RB all alone in the backfield, and you have no idea how to defend? That's your excuse?
49ers (2-6)-JT O'Sullivan?
Chargers (3-5)-Best 3-5 team ever
Rams (2-5)-No Stephen Jackson, at home, and the game was STILL close

You're right, I wouldn't take these games as too much of a representation.....buddy.

Some football genius once noted that you can only play the schedule. Of course, all the teams giving up less yardage than us have faced playoff contenders only and opponents playing at full strength...oh, wait...

This league has created a yardage based mentality over the years that is truly empty headed. Arizona lost yesterday yet Warner's smiling mug again tops the QB leaders board... Points win and lose games, not yards. I believe that long ago season when our dynasty was born this D ranked 24th against the run by yardage allowed...but in the top 10 when the measure was points allowed. How else could Brady have won a Superbowl without a top defense...remember??? Back then that became the Indy fans rallying cry.

That's the thing for me. Our defense isn't 9th overall... it's 10th, 5th, 32nd, 3rd, 30th, 1st, and 4th... all depends on the week it seems. (numbers arbitrary, btw).

Lets hope that San Diego game awoke the sleeping giant that is the Patriots Defense.

All signs point to a nice turn around in play from that game to the last 2 games.

You can say what you want about the O-Lines of the Rams and Donkeys, but when enough can not be said about Momentum and Confidence.

Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I'm ecstatic too but we're going to find out what this defense is made of this Sunday.

Unfortunately, per your reckoning, we are only 19th on Offense.

Those numbers are improving. Notice how we're generating more and more points every game? As Cassel settles down and the offense keeps adjusting to his playing style, that number is going to go up. Now, cue the crowd that comes in to argue that we haven't been playing good defenses lately (the Bob Bummer crowd).

No we won't. There will be a million explanations about the Colts beating themselves if we win. Also, everyone will cite POST game stats about how bad this or that unit of the Colts is.

Even if we win, we lose around this joint.

considering that everyone gets injured every game, 9th is pretty good.

Well... people with an IQ over 10 will find out what the defense is made of this weekend. That's a better way to say it.

Ah, gotcha. So which forum will these people be hanging out in?
