We all know the Pats use 3 safties on the field in most of if not all nickel and dime packages, with Harrison out who do you think will be that 3rd saftey out there with Sanders and Meriweather?

Ray Ventrone. Spann will be the 4th.

I'm not sure that's true--against the Donkeys, there were 159 snaps for CBs (2.65/play) v. 140 snaps for Ss (2.33/play).

Oh ok thanks 4 clearin that up...

Ray Ventrone. Spann will be the 4th.

If this is true, do we start having the mentality that Ventrone is the Cassel of the defense? Obviously there are some differences (not being a starter for one), but there would be a sharp learning curve and probably some mistakes made on his part. I could predict some harsh posts to come.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but at the same time let it be known that I am a big fan of Ray, and I want to lobby for some patience in regards to him if this is the case.

Good luck getting this lobby to have some patience. But Ray should have it much easier than Matt. Safeties rarely get blamed for losses or get credit for a win (unless they run back a pick 6 late in the 4th quarter). He will not get the scrutinize nearly as much as Cassel.

Meriweather, Spann, Ventrone, Sanders, Slater all qualify as safeties.

In a pinch you could even use Moss as a CB and move one of the corners to safety for a snap or two.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only experience Moss has had on D was at deep safety on hail mary situations... cornerback would be a stretch but I think he could be a possible idea for an emergency.

Might as well start grooming Welker for a Troy Brown CB spot while we have the time.

We won't see a third Safety on the field very often, if ever, IMO. The 5th DB will be a CB. The only time we'll see the third Safety is if (or when, the way this year is going) Sanders or Meriweather get hurt.

I will be very upset if I see that. They've used Moss to break up potential "jump ball" hail mary passes before, and it always freaks me out.

Yeah, we're stocked and it won't happen, but it has. Just saying.
And maybe it was deep safety. I can't say I can tell by one snap who's doing what when a WR is on defense.

I remember they used him like that in Dallas and I think in the SB. Not sure when else if ever. Scares the crap out of me.

At least he's not lining up at RB.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him as FB blocking for Evans. Our boys like the wacky.

The more we talk about this, the more I think we should just sit Moss for anything besides a hail-mary, lol.

I say Mankins lines up as 3rd down DT... how's that for a change-up?

Agreed. I made a post during the preseason saying that Brady is so valuable we should NEVER allow him to play. Same thing. ;)

LOL. I guess listened to you by faking a knee injury and exposing the fact that teams assume they can beat us.

Really, Bill is toying with other teams by rotating the roster one week at a time.

For sure the last thing we want is Moss jumping to block a pass as a CB and rolling his ankle on the reciever's foot when he lands. Oy vey...Give us a big OY VEY PJ!
