Did we know how bad Brady's knee was back in 2008?

re: Tom Brady getting Better! (merged)

Adam Schefter is on WEEI right now and he said he spoke to someone very close to Brady and they said the treatment is "routine" and they don't expect any set back. He took a shot at ESPN saying that their story about the Pats being upset is bogus and said the media is out of control.

Noooooooooo! That's news to me.

re: Tom Brady getting Better! (merged)

James Andrews said:
"Optimistically, once you get this under control and you can save that graft and win the infection battle -- which apparently from what I gather he is winning -- once the healing process catches back up, it really doesn't set him behind to any degree relative to the overall healing process."

Take that, haters at ESPN. Good thing I don't watch their crap anymore.

Honestly, I want BB to go on an incentive laden tirade at ESPN someday, but I'll settle for the press release from yesterday which was a more subtle approach.

re: Tom Brady getting Better! (merged)

I guess Brady gave Andrews permission to talk about his medical issues?

Schefter does have info pipelines into the Pats org. Now he could just be preserving that access by parroting the company line, but I think he's speaking to the facts.

And, just to continue the theme that Dr. ElAttrache knows what he's doing:

Likewise, Andrews said Brady made the right decision in selecting ElAttrache. "[Neal is] very knowledgeable and as good a decision maker in taking care of athletic injuries -- including complications -- as anyone in the world."

how come ElAttrache was chosen? if he has to consult w/ andrews i would put andrews above...

maybe its just a doctor thing

Apparently Andrews was on EEI yesterday saying he often consults with ElAttrache, asking him for his thoughts. I'm sure its a back and forth, just getting each others opinions.

Looking more and more like we won't see a fully functional Brady until well into the season next year.

It's 11 months away. ACL rehab can be as short as 6 months.

Everyone just needs to calm the f**k down right about now.

They're both at the top of the field. Is Andrews "better" ? Maybe, I don't know. But, clearly, this was, and is, a top notch doctor.

Will Carroll of BaseballProspectus and SI.com said that. He does know both doctors very well though.

He probably had no choice given all the bs that's been circulating lately:rolleyes: At least this article is more in line with the basic info you typically get from one of those press conferences held whenever someone famous undergoes surgery or something.

I'll take Andrews' word over anybody else's.

re: Tom Brady getting Better! (merged)

Wow! Dennis' and Callahan's spin on this article is mind boggling. The spun it like Dr. ElAttrache was so at a loss, confused by the infection, and just incompetent that he had to go to Dr. Andrews to save his arse. Ok, I know those guys aren't the brightest bulbs in the tree, but they have never heard of a doctor's consult? If you are going to consult a doctor on an MCL infection, who is better than Dr. Andrews especially since both doctors have a good working relationship.

re: Tom Brady getting Better! (merged)

Why Tom hasn't gone to see this guy I will never understand.

Two heads are better than one. I don't know why anyone thinks the doctors (at least in that pay scale and fame level) wouldn't put the patient first and compare notes for the best prognosis.

I agree. I think it was a smart move. When the average person thinks of ACL surgery for an athlete, the first thing you think of is Dr. James Andrews. If he says that Brady is on the road to recovery, it carries a lot more weight than "unnamed sources". Well, with everyone other than ESPN who are now reporting that Brady may have to have both legs amputated and the Pats are so mad that they have taken out a hit with Tony Soprano to take out Brady, Dr. ElAttrache, and everyone in Brady's family who were in on the "family decision".

Nice to hear....Shefter is usually on top of things. It's always nice when one of the media takes a shot at ESPN!

Usually if Schefter gets on board with something, it's pretty accurate. He has some pretty good sources around the league.

How is this information being leaked out if most if not all medical records are private between doctor/patient? I hope its not a relative or teammate that's leaking this out. That would be pretty low.

Exactly my question too. Honestly this is somewhat creepy to me.

I don't know about other states but I do know in MA any healthcare employee who violates a patient's right to privacy can get not only fined (up to $250,000) but also visit prison for up to something like 10 years. HIPAA may be federal rather than state but I'm not sure, all I know is if it's a hospital/clinic employee leaking this stuff I'm pretty sure(?) Tom has a right to sue.
