Let me start as I for one am not convinced that the Denver blowout is going to change things permanently for this team and make them an instant bonafide contender again automatically because we have seen victories this year in one week and then a pounding by 25 and 20 points the next ,so while the team at least looked very good last week I still don't know if it is a team that is good enough to get to 10 wins and win consistently like 3 or 4 in a row which would definately open some eyes again...

With that being said IF this team does get to the playoffs with a 10-6 record or better will this be Bill's best coaching performance ever or does last years 18-1 outdo a 10-6 in 2008 or maybe somewhere in between?

To make a case of all of Bill's years here in NE...

You can say that...

2001 was his best as he took a team that struggled to win 5 games in 2000 to a Championship the following season and during that time making the difficult decision to let a 6th rounder unknown QB finish the season over a seasoned veteran who was the #1 QB in NE for 7 years

2003 or 2004 - Both years with similar situations - Tons of injuries to key players and BB's ability to pull a guy off the streets to fill in for a starter and do it admirably to end up winning the championship both years

2006 - Could be a consideration, especially on the offensive side of the ball where the game plan worked perfectly when in reality the WR corps lacked alot of talent with Reche Bug Eyes and an aging Troy Brown as top receivers and only to miss the Super Bowl by blowing a substantial lead in the 2nd half of the AFCCG - Still it was a great year no one expected

2007 - Speaks for itself ,18-0 before losing the SB but what a ride it was,I still am not convinced this was BBs best coaching year ever because that roster had so many stars that even Herm Edwards could have taken that team deep into the playoffs

2008 - IF this team goes 10-6, I say hands down best coaching job ever by BB - You got a raw QB never starting since high school and injuries all over - Even if they don't get past round one and only make it in as a wildcard at #6 automatically IMO this year would be the best coaching job ever by him

Just going by a 10-6 scenerio this year,What year would you give BB for best coaching job ever?

2001?
2003/04?
2006?
2007?
2008? (2008 is only by assuming A 10-6 playoff berth scenerio)

Re: Just say for instance this team goes 10-6 .....

lol, 01 is his best so far, and 07 follows it...

for 08 to contend, we have to reach at least the AFC championship game...

(which i am optimistic we will wint he SB )

but unless that happens, then no, BB made a roster, and yea, he kept a guy who never started since high school as the number 2...if they go deep this yr, it means that its not all Brady, and that he can pull a team together even if the most important player on the team (and league) goes down for the year, in the first week no less...

BB being BB, i would nto expect him to keep just anyone backing up Brady....

but even after we win the SB this yr, i think 01 would be higher...

Re: Just say for instance this team goes 10-6 .....

It's not like Cassel is surrounded by bums though. He has WAY more talent around him than Brady did on 01.

Also I would not be surprised if we make the SuperBowl. The two big dogs in the AFC right now (Buffalo and Tennesse) lack the "big game" experience. Colts and Chargers are looking legitimately bad as the season goes on. Denver is obviously not as good as they seemed at the start of the year.

...and Cassel wil continue to get better every game.

NEP IR list:

#1 RB
2x Pro-bowl, 2x all-team DB
HOF QB

When the NEP make the playoffs I will consider it his second best coaching performance, right after '01.

The defense and special teams were better in 2001 than they are now.

Obviously, Cassel plays offense, and yes the talent around him is better.

but the D and Special teams effect won-loss greatly.

I only have stats and old videos to go on, but I think our ST this year might be better by playoff time. Same with D. We're getting younger and faster quickly on D. I don't know what to say about CB yet, but I think it will be ok.

Coaching isn't a year by year thing, though.* The great talent this year reflects the coaching and decision making of years past.

*This refers largely to our team which seems to have disconnected and thrown out the panic button.

He would have to win out to top 2001. This team is far more talented while 2001 had ALOT of castoffs that nobody wanted in the STARTING lineup. The only different players from that team that would sniff any significant playing time on this team would be Law, Troy(but as a 3rd option as best), Otis, and Phifer. To put in perspective how fortunate we were to win a Super Bowl that year, Brady was a better QB in 2002 and missed the playoffs entirely with the same team. That was a rebuilding team that could maybe catch a few breaks and win the division, but to win a Super Bowl was pretty phenomenal. The team we have now is pretty much the same team that beat San Diego by more than a score in the AFCC and almost beat the Super Bowl champions, both games without an effective passing game. This is a good team, even without Brady.

This would be a remarkable achievement, to go 10-6 with a QB who last started in high school.

01 is the answer. It has nothing to do with TB and 08 team is better than 01 team.

What do you think BB would say.

I'm sure in going 10-6 BB would say we did some rightthings and we did some wrong things.

BB would focus on the 6 games he lost and what he can do to improve.

I would think that the expectations are that the Patriots get better every year. Why wouldn't they if they continue eliminating the mistakes.

What do you think sticks out in most people's head tha the Pats went 10-6 in 2008 or will it Be " how badly the LOST a HOME game to the MIAMI DOLPHINS". Do you think BB himself feels he was outcoached in that game.

WHAT IF the Patriots go 9-7 and limp into the playoffs - and string together 4 straight playoff shutouts

The 2001 Super Bowl team was easily BB's best coaching job.

The defense and special teams were not better after 6 weeks in 2001 than they are after 6 weeks now.

How is the 'premise' getting no attention here?
The premise being:

Blowing out the 4-2 Broncos doesnt convince me that our 4-2 team is good enough to be better than 5-5 the rest of the way.

Leave it to the doom and gloom crowd to find a way to say that our blowout win doesnt convince them we are good as a record before the blowout win (against a 4-2 team) was.

3-2 team blows out a 4-2 team to become 4-2 and hasn't convinced nimrod they are better than .500

Whats wrong with the Premise of the OP?

To say this team right now is inconsistent is wrong to you?

Last time I checked this team's last 4 games consisted of L-W-L-W with the losses both 20 points or more so whats your problem? - Beating a decent team at 4-2 means what? - Don't sugar coat a win (or loss) too much because this season is far from over.

Nothing from last weeks game means anything more except for the fact it means one more win in the column with nothing to base it on for what will happen for the rest of the season :rolleyes:

Not to forget to mention that win cost us a loss of a 2nd quarterback for the season - The QB of the defense, #37
