Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

Is it Tomarsehat reporting it? Maybe he just ran out of jowels to count on.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

It sucks, but reading the article they say if there's any suspicion of an infection they'll operate as much as they need too. The doctor still thinks Brady will be back just fine. It sucks hearing he's still under the knife though.

Karen Guregian.

In any case, let me quote a small portion of the article, to allay your fears somewhat:

“Often, if you’re concerned about an infection, you clean the knee out as many times as it needs to be cleaned out,” [Dr. Arun Ramappa, chief of sports medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center] said. “We clean it out until we think it’s adequate. Ideally, you don’t want an infection at all, or any repeat surgeries. They may be being cautious, it’s hard to know. There could be a residual infection, or they’re doing everything they possibly can to make sure the infection is gone.” [. . .]

“The less knee surgery you have, the better, but he’s a tremendous athlete,” Ramappa said. “As long as the graft is OK and the infection is gone, he should be able to come back just fine. This will just be a blip on the screen.”

Besides, he's got almost a full year to heal.

If the 'second and third' surgeries happened in..you know...June, I'd be a bit more worried about his availability but he should be fine for the 09 season.

Not knowing sucks. Seems like he has been through alot.

The way I see it is this--he signed a contract through 2010. And I'm pretty damn sure he plans to fulfill it to the best of his ability--and that means being ready to go Opening Day 2009.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

It sucks he has to have a 3rd surgery but at the same time atleast its still early and will have plenty of time to recover from it.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

God news like this makes my stomach drop. Not in the good, roller-coaster way, but in the dog-hit-by-car way.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

I'm hoping they don't have to start from scratch.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

I missed read the article. It says he had two more procedures on the knee since the one last week. So they opened his knee up four times now? Any doctors around?

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

The Herald? They're still around? I thought we banned them from having anything to do with the Pats.

Im sure his knee will be fine, so don't anyone panic. trust me :D

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

Stop being played for fools by reporters who think you are stupid.

When you have a localized infection, they often keep the wound open so they can go in to drain and clean the infected area. It's basically to keep fluid from building up. Either drain it or wait for it to be absorbed by the body. Technically, each time they drain the wound, it's a "surgery". In reality, they doctors are simply draining the infection for the days or week it takes for the massive antibiotics to run their course.

This is all so much fear mongering.

Re: Boston herald is reporting Brady had to have a third surgery

This 3rd operation is alarming news and all of a sudden I'm not thinking just about Carson Palmer, my thoughts include Garrison Hearst as well. You may remember, Hearst twisted his ankle all the way around in a playoff game for the forty niners. He had significant circulatory problems after the surgery as the blood supply to his foot got cut off which caused one of the bones in his foot to die, leading to something called avascular necrosis. Yes we are talking about Brady's knee, not his foot, but nerve damage and blood vessel injury are potential complications with ACL reconstruction.

Major ACL surgery complications include, but are not limited to:

* Serious infections
* Fracture of the kneecap or thighbone
* Rupture or failure of the graft
* Blood clots in the legs, pelvis, or lungs
* Nerve injury
* Serious bleeding from blood vessel injury
* Serious reaction to anesthesia
* Allergic reaction to medication
* Persistent pain or numbness
* Long-term decreased knee motion
* Persistent swelling of the knee
* Transmission of disease (if a cadaver ACL is used)
* Thighbone fracture (if a hamstring graft is used)
* Continued knee looseness or return of the original symptoms

I think we busted that panic button a few weeks ago. It gets pushed about 20 times a day here. :D

thanks sunshine:rolleyes:

You forgot to mention Robert Edwards. Either way, I'm still confident that Brady will be fine. He has the best doctors(and a super model) caring for that knee.
