Sure, he's overexposed, a drama queen, and can be a turnover machine at times, but that doesn't make him overrated. There's something to be said about a guy who goes out, plays 16 games a year no matter what, and puts up at least 25 TDs and close to 4,000 yards every year in the cold.

To me, he's better than Manning. Favre holds all the records and didn't put up the stats in a heated gymnasium. When he beat us in the Super Bowl, I remember him throwing a couple bombs for TDs, one to Andre Rison I think and the other to Antonio Freeman if I remember correctly. Manning threw 3 TD and 7INT in his SB playoff run. In other words, he had nothing to do with his team winning the Super Bowl.

I compare Favre to the Simpsons...they both did their best work in the 90s, but the difference between Favre and the Simpsons is, Favre can still play. He isn't 1998 Favre, but he still has a cannon arm, is fun to watch. He reminds me of Brady in a way: These guys just love to play the game. They look like kids playing a pick-up game when they throw a TD or get a first-down. Guys like Manning in the clutch look like they're tossing Shaquille O Neal's salad.

In my opinion, Favre is a top 5 QB...my top 5 of all-time would be Montana, Brady, Elway, Favre, and Marino...Favre getting the nod over Marino because of the SB win and eclipsing his stats.

Understood, but even before he was on the Jets, he seemed to be dispised by some people on this board, perhaps because of his overexposure and drama queen antics.

Oh, I thought he worked fro ESPN.

Re: OT: Why the Brett Favre hatred?

I don't like Favre, and that's because he is the quarterback for the Jets. Period. End of question, because, honestly, the degree I like a player or coach is predicated solely on the color of the laundry they wear on Sunday. And when sports fans admit this, and stop bashing players and coaches for any other reason, the world of sports will be infinitely better.

Re: OT: Why the Brett Favre hatred?

For me it is all about his ridiculous love of himself and the media's ridiculous love of him. He is the biggest media whore that sports has ever seen and because of it, he is given a free pass by them no matter how bad he plays.

He's a Rat...he plays for Biggie Rat genius...he's O-U-T as long as he dons the puke green garbage can colors of Team Stool Pigeon

Re: OT: Why the Brett Favre hatred?

I respect the hell out of what Favre has done on the field, but I have absolutely no respect for the man. He has been an egomanical premadonna the last few years where he has felt that the Packers should do what is best for Brett Favre over what they feel is best for the team. He wanted the Packers to wait every year until he decided whether he wanted to play or not. He had his own private lockerroom with the Packers. He has publically chastized Ted Thompson for not hiring the coach or acquiring the players he wanted. He constantly lies to the media and then blasts them for calling him on it. He has been spitful to the team he played for forever because they traded him away. He supposably sought out the Lions and gave them inside information on the Packers.

Favre thinks he is bigger than the game. He is incapable to understand the Packers wanted to move on and they actually made the right decision in doing so.

Favre will go down in history as one of the greatest QBs of all time, but he really is an arse as a person.

Re: OT: Why the Brett Favre hatred?

I agree that his off-the-field behavior is dubious, but it's not like he's Manny Ramirez and tanks it on the field and affects his team. Mike Mussina (not at Favre's level as an athlete) is an a**hole to the media and thinks he's smarter than them because he's a Stanford grad, but that doesn't mean he isn't a very good pitcher. Unless an athlete is killing people like Ray Lewis, I could care less what they do off the field as long as they give 100 percent on the field.

Excellent case for why I can't stand the self-absorbed guy. Could not state it better myself.

Re: OT: Why the Brett Favre hatred?

what bothers me about favre is his phony personality. he does levis ads like he is the everyman, dresses such , acts like he is a 'southern boy' but has manipulated the media like no one else. the way he used to text and message espn throught his nonsense this yr is a great example of his nature.

I personally do not like Favre, but there is no need to hate on a QB who has done nothing to really earn it. As far as him being one of the greatest ever, he is. Although I do not believe Brady and Elways are in the same league as Favre, Manning and Montana.
