Is the turf responsible for injuries this year?

While Brady's injury is questionable and probably still the same on grass ... Rodney's injury definitely looks like it was caused by the turf. Unless my eyes deceive me it looks like his toe got stuck somehow in the turf.

There is no good reason why we switched to turf. The reason the grass was so bad is because ... exactly as I had predicted ... there was too little loam underneath it. The drainage system was poorly conceived as to the health of the grass.

Well ... anyways ... enough :blahblah: from me.

Should we have stuck with grass :confused2:... with more loam of course? :ugh:

Impossible as long as the Revs play there.
Don't buy the concert excuse. That is only an occasional thing and can be dealt with. The Revs put wear and tear on the field.

Actually, FWIW, Tom was one of the big advocates of the Field Turf; he apparently was pushing them to get it for quite some time before the JEST debacle in '06 convinced them to make the switch.

I like Field Turf, from a purely spectator POV. There is a "good reason" why the Krafts switched....grass won't survive in Gillette, given the current usage, climate and lighting situation at field level inside the stadium. Pittsburgh's Heinz Field is a disgrace. It has similar conditions. The League should probably have Field Turf wherever possible, to minimize the quagmire factor.

I know I'll get flamed by "purists" who feel otherwise, but I like seeing who is who rather than a slippery mud bowl reducing the world's best athlete's to stumbling buffoons. If I need to see that spectacle, I'd rather the participants be hot girls in bikinis.

Field Turf doesn't have a higher injury rate, in fact it might be lower, from what I've read. The footing is better in bad weather. It makes the sideline and TD calls easier to see, too. I also like what Ohio State did at the "Horseshoe", alternating light and dark green turf every 5 yard section. The Rays should employ something like that to make their Field Turf look better and more natural at "The Trop"...and get rid of those ridiculous catwalks! OK, I'm officially off on a tangent...

I don't know if you can blame the field turf for Harrison's injury. Injuries like this happen on grass too. It could have been because of the turf. Brady's injury would have happened anywhere since he was hit at the point he had all his weight on that leg and the softer grass wouldn't have helped.

I like the grass too, but I think the field turf helped us last year. The fast track definitely helps quick guys like Welker and fast guys like Moss.

These injuries are more function of having an extended season and not sufficient off season time to completely heal, it seems every year after a superbowl there are a plethora of injuries..

Just my theory, cannot be proven.. but I believe it.

Champ Bailey was also injured despite no apparent contact.

I like field turf more than grass you get more consistency from it when you run it's much less affected by weather which changes so quickly. On grass you need to have 4 sets of studs for your cleats depending on the conditions. I have played on 4 surface types in the past year for football and soccer Grass, Astroturf, Fieldturf and and mixture of Fieldturf and grass. Football can quickly cause a lot of damage to grass on the sidelines it did to Wembley last year. the best surface i played on was the mixture of grass and turf It was like a carpet. I think the turf is better than grass as a surface and understand why it has been installed. Look at brady's record on turf I like it.

I've heard that a grass field can be kept good even in cold NE weather.

It's all the wear and tear from taht stupid soccer team. It's too bad it can't be some kidn of removable turf, wehre you can put turf on a platform above the grass for these soccer people, then remove the turf to get the grass again.

But maybe even football tends to tear the grass up somewhat.
