Rodney's done (at least for this year). What should the Pats do?

I would most likely try and sign Law and convert him to safety but i dont know his price range.

The Pats had 3 safeties on the field A LOT so far this year, so I imagine we'll have to do something.

I think Meriweather and Sanders in the base D is going to be fine, so its more of an issue of who is the extra safety/DB in the nickel package.

That might just mean more playing time for a CB or safety currently on the squad, but I can see them signing either Lynch or Law for that role. Lynch, perhaps less likely, since his weakness is obviously coverage, he'd be suited more to the base D, but I really think Meriweather and Sanders have that covered.

Or we fix the issue in house. I could see us signing Spann off the PS, he was good in preseason.

IS it time to reinvent the Don Davis saftey?

I could see BB in his dungen now, thinking about putting Adalius Thomas at Strong Saftey up at the line moving Crable and /or Woods (who I think still stinks) to OLB. I loved it in the regular season when BB moved Thomas out on Buress to jam him at the line near the goaline (gee, I can think of another time, where that might have been helpful). I have always thought that Thomas is better at ILB than OLB, but a hybrid strong saftey and blitzing maybe that could do the trick.

AD at SS. Gonna have to ponder that one for a bit, but I like it at first thought. Initial hesitation would be down field coverage speed, but then I flash back to the INT last season and the image of him sprinting down the sideline outrunning everyone, and that doesn't seem like much of a worry. Hmm...

Hm. I don't know. Sounds interesting, but do you think an OLB is going to be as adept at reading WR routes as a Safety or former CB?

ill say that we sign either seau or lynch.....to be the hybrid rodney was...

He played safty and even press corner with the Ravens, it would be interesting.

Seau, huh? Think he's got the speed for it? Not saying Rodney was uber-fast, but running speed is part of that job.

I would prefer that we sign Lynch or Law, but I don't we'll do so. Lynch apparently wasn't good enough and midseason is not the time for Law to start to play out of position.

Activating Spann seems right. More reps for Richardson is another possibility. These guys both practice with the team each week. My bet is that they have played some safety in practice.

Supposedly Slater was the #4 safety, but I'm not not buying. Ventrone SHOULD be the man, but somehow is hasn't been a safety for awhile.

JOHN LYNCH

Sign Em Up!!!!

We need veteran leadership in the secondary...theres no one better out there that can come in and lead these guys...unless Ty Law comes to his senses but you guys already know how that is

PFT's reporting they've received an unconfirmed tip that John Lynch was spotted at Logan.

"We’ve already gotten an unconfirmed tip from a reader who claims that Lynch has been spotted at Logan Airport in Boston."
ProFootballTalk.com - Rumor Mill FWIW.

I think the positive out of this is that Merriweather will be on the field full time now. I think Sanders will move to SS and Merriweather will move to FS.

I predict BB will do what will put the NEP in the best position to win.

I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Lynch, but I also just expect Slater moves to Safety, or we bring Spann back in. Or Ventrone moves over. Or Guyton plays that hybrid role with quickness and power. Curious to see what happens, but Slater is my first guess.

Lynch is 37, damn it.I think they should try and contact Ty Law.Are there still hard feelings there?

Richardson is a real tiny guy out there... when he made that tackle on ST last night I thought for sure that it was some WR making the play. I don't think he can handle playing safety.

This really hurts, since it seems like Meriweather was getting better and better at the Ed Reed deep ball-hawk type of role, and now he'll probably have to play closer to the line on more occasions. And Sanders has had quite a few issues this year to say the least.

I am thinking maybe short term...Antoine Spann...or Richardson...with a short week..they need to make a quick move..so..instead, they may rely on a PSqd move and then look at others long term (for this year..) Law wants too much and every time there is a REASON for him..his price goes up...

Ty Law if the price is right.

it's too bad that Rodney is done for the season and I hope he will be back soon. John Lynch is a good safety and it's nice to have him.

I really like Rodney.
