Sorry if I missed this thread somewhere else.

Maroney's season ends - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

The Patriots have placed running back Laurence Maroney on season-ending injured reserve, according to an NFL source.

Maroney, now in his third season, missed Sunday's game against the Chargers with a shoulder injury. He also missed the team's Week 3 loss to the Dolphins with a shoulder injury.

Maroney totaled 28 carries for 93 yards this season. A first-round draft choice in 2006, he is signed through the 2010 season.

The Patriots have Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, LaMont Jordan, Heath Evans and BenJarvus Green-Ellis on the roster at running back.

Eh, I guess we can add "running back" to our draft needs this year. Is Maroney EVER going to get healthy?

Re: Maroney to IR

The guy just can't catch a break, health-wise.

This sucks. I know he's a popular whipping boy, mostly by posters who completely turn a blind eye to his dominant stretch run at the end of the 2007 season. The fact is Maroney is the only game-breaking RB on the team's roster and they are a worse team with him on IR.

Hopefully Jordan gets healthy soon, as a combo of Jordan-Morris-Faulk is serviceable.

Maybe Neal or Ross will be activated...

ah crap! I don't care what others think of Maroney, he did have his share of good runs and i would rather have him than some other unknown RB.

Can't believe that we just lost a good RB for the season when we desperately needed some running game to support our anemic offense.

BJGE is on the roster. He might show up over the next few games.

Please, let it be so. That would a pretty amazing advance to game-ready from PUP, though.

They both practiced all week.

Re: Maroney to IR

Skins picked Alexander up. We don't have much in the way of RB's atm. Faulk isn't getting many carries, Jordon is injured, Morris isn't getting it done. We have green-ellis I hope he goes out with a point to make if he gets game time.

Green-Ellis was actually a very, very good running back in college if anybody has actually watched him before. I was actually wondering when they were going to insert him into the game when Maroney was on the sidelines. I'm curious to see what the guy can do in the NFL.

Re: Maroney to IR

You would give Green-Ellis reps instead of Morris and Faulk? I expect Faulk to get more reps and for him not to return punts or kicks.

Re: Maroney to IR

this is why the line needs upgrading to run with average running backs. wouldn't you say antwan smith was just a notch above average?

I don't think he was saying that at all. I don't think anybody in their right mind would want that. But if you saw BenJarvus play in college, you would want him inserted into the game at times too. The guy is a very hard runner.

Who'd the 'Skins pick up from our roster?

Thanks I never get to see any college ball living in the UK

I would not but I was saying that he might get a chance and if he does I hope he has a point to prove and proves it.

It wouldn't seem like the kid would get much time when we had 4 RB's ahead of him tonight that is halved for him.

What sort of speed does he have? cause I think we need a change of pace back too.

can somebody now grade the 2005 draft again.
did anyone make the team or a meaningful contribution?

Re: Maroney to IR

Other than the fragility of Mauroney (which might be another topic altogether), I actually view this sort of as GOOD news.

Good news in the sense that its obvious why he was running poorly this season, as he was injured bad enough to be put on IR. I thought he turned the corner the latter half of last year so it didn't make sense when he seemed to regress this year.

Let him heal up (hopefully) and come back next year running like he did late 2007.
