Great article. I have thought the kid had great potential since TC. This article adds to my belief that he will be a star. Not only does he have the ability, he has the mind set.

I like this kid. He's not some HOT SHOT. He keeps his head down and works. It is very refreshing to hear that a rooky is so dedicated. Good pick, IMO.

This bit jumped out at me.

Mayo said his tackling has been solid — he separated Baltimore rookie running back Ray Rice from his headgear during an exhibition game — but that he needs to improve his pass rush and pass coverage.

"It's the schemes," Mayo said of the college-to-pro transition, "and the thing about the NFL is, everybody's good. Especially when you're learning a new defense, it gets a little difficult because you're second-guessing yourself. As you continue to learn the playbook, you start to play faster.

"Just learning the playbook. The playbook is huge, it's huge."

I think we as fans forget this. I watched some college football last night while the Baseball game was malfunctioning (well, the telecasting) and it's true. There's a big difference, even to my untrained eye. That means the guys we're hating on when our team loses are still incredible athletes. They could be nearing the end of their careers or having a bad day some of those times, but we need spend a little less time laying the whips to any single player after a bad game.

love the fact he got a small apt right next to the stadium and basically lives in gillette as much as possible, early mornings and late nights too. love the fact that all he bought is a truck since he's gotten the money.

Ya, I miss watching him at UT, but its great to watch him play for my other favorite team...:)

Do you find that in watching college football AND pro football certain schools or college coaches tend to turn out "kinds" of players? ie: troublemakers, studious, technicians, etc...

From my brief exposure to who came from where in the QB dept. USC looks like a school that turns out quality players. Do you think it's more individual than that or are there trends within the various institutions as to what they bring to the NFL?

Great young rookie but I would like to see more pressure and at least a few sacks on the QB which should come with time - Right now hes a tackling machine

I'm loving Jerod Mayo more every day this season. I remember wondering why he was picked with the 10th overall draft pick and that's the reason why i watch football on television and not on the sidelines.
