Tom Brady statement
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
October 18, 2008 11:10 PM

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has released a statement on his website -- TomBrady.com -- regarding the status of his injured left knee.

The statement reads:

"I would like to thank everyone for the well wishes and support you have given me throughout my career. It has been particularly helpful during these past six weeks. It is great to know you are all behind me, not only during the good times, but also during the challenging times. On October 6, I had surgery to repair my knee from the injury that took place four weeks earlier in our season opener.

"The surgery went well and my doctor described my knee as 'rock solid.' Unfortunately, in the week following the surgery, I developed an infection. The infection is very treatable and, through a course of antibiotics, it will be knocked out of my system. We were proactive with the infection and the doctors went in for a second procedure this past Wednesday to clean and to test the wound. The results of the tests have all been positive and we are very thankful. I am excited to begin rehabbing my knee and will continue preparing for 2009. I'm looking forward to supporting my teammates throughout the rest of this season, as we strive to achieve the goals we set as a team months ago. Thanks again for your letters and well wishes. The support has meant so much to me during these past few weeks.

"I encourage all of my young fans to keep your bodies and minds as fit as possible and to deal with whatever challenges you may face. We never know what life is going to throw us. The best offense is to be prepared whether for the next school test, the next game, or for an unexpected challenge.

"Thanks again -TB."

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

That was real cool of Tom to release that to help ease our anxiety about his situation.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

Much man love for Brady. Hell of a classy guy. He didn't have to do this, but he understood that the fans were worried about him. It is a relief to hear this coming from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

Mr. Perfect strikes again. We love you Tommy.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

Hey it's great that Tom Brady's website staff released a statement that was theoretically by him about his knee! I'm glad Tom Brady ('s website staff) are so in touch with the fans that they'd do that for us.

If you actually believe that Tom Brady had anything to do with the penning of that statement, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Wow, cynicism is at an all time high.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

Aren't we happy now? All the wankers screeching about BB not answering the media's questions when all along Tom "Effin" Brady was planning to handle his own publicity through his own people. Well, now that you know your mail is being read you should get your crayons out and write Tommy a get well card complaining about his secretiveness.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

hopefully the guys who complained "why doesnt brady say 'hello'" and why isnt he talking will now be happy.

first the folks on the board complain ..no one says anything..then complain its written by someone else although the facts in the statement seem to be more important.
Next we will hear, why did tom post a video message on his website ? or hold a press conference.?

I never had a problem with Brady's silence. It never bothered me at all. The statement on his website contains nothing we did not know courtesy of Reiss and nothing that is any sort of news to us. It isn't a complaint that it was penned by someone else; it was simply a statement of fact.

We know Brady is fine and we know he'll be ready for next year. We have seven and a half months until this is his team again. Let's stay Patriots fans for that duration, even if Cassel is a pale alternative.

Tom Brady is the man.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

It does not matter if TB wrote this or not, what matters is that we know more than we did 2 minutes ago.. the information is a good thing..

He had at least one thing to do with it -- he authorized it.

Even if the Patriots' or some other PR staff recommended it to him -- he authorized it.

I agree that it's unlikely he did much of the wordsmithing.

So the organization wrote that?

How many other "statements of players" released officially through the Patriots encourage kids to stay in school and prepare for the next test?

I can't remember any statements from any other players talking about that.

Nice classy move by Brady if you ask me to use the opportunity to try to encourage kids to get smart and healthy.

Re: Tom Brady STATEMENT

While healthy skepticism is an uncommon virtue these days, I thought the phraseology was quite similar to Tom's manner of speaking. However much wordsmithed the message was, it's good to hear it. Me, I'm glad to hear that there was no amputation.

I'd bet dimes to donuts that's straight from the horse's mouth. Obviously the webmaster put it on the site, but you guys are delusional if you think he's not even capable or genuine enough to have initiated that.

Shocking as it may seem, famous folks are still people and able/allowed to perform such functions as writing a note.

Some of you guys are seriously in WAY too deep over Tom.
