Why is it sad? What's your point?
According to a former Patriots coach, you are what your record says you are.
That would make the Patriots a slightly better than average team as of
right now.
But unless I'm mistaken, the playoffs don't start in October.
Perhaps you'd be surprised to learn what the record of last year's Super Bowl Champion was after their first five games as well.
That would be 3-2 for those of you who don't care to look it up - or a .600 winning percentage.
Perhaps you'd also be surprised to learn that last year's Super Bowl Champion squeaked into the playoffs as a wildcard team at 10-6... a slight improvement over their first five games to a .625 winning percentage.
They were, after 5 games, and as of the playoffs, when VERY few gave them a chance to win the Lombardi, an average team at best by your criteria - and yet peaked not in October, but in January in February.
If you consider yourself a knowledgeable football fan you shouldn't be surprised by any of this - but apparently you are.
And if your point was to illustrate that average teams in October win Super Bowls, and that team with average QBs have also won Super Bowls, you've done your job, and I thank you, as I'm now feeling MUCH better about the Patriots chances this season!
