IMO - if he can't cut it against such a soft D in Denver...then i really think we need to look somewhere else...if it's O'Connell, then at least give the kid a shot.

And the idiocy continues...

I doubt it. I really doubt that. I am more confident in my prediction MC will be the QB against the Rams then I am in my prediction we beat Denver.

MC is the QB for the NEP!

Every week some Maroon posts the same false premise

It's make or break in your mind, obviously, but not in everyone's. And I suspect it is not make or break in Belichick's mind.

And where else would we go but O'Connell? Stupid.

Cassel will continue to start every game until the end of the season.

ha....i'm just eff'ing it around.....i just wish they would let him open it up a bit....seems like they have him on such a tight leash that he can't do much of anything.

can't we just send these moronic threads to the Visitors Lockerroom or maybe back about five years in the thread archive? we'd actually had a couple of decent days on the board, but "...they're baaaaaaaaaack..."

It'll be make or break week every week for Cassel, and he's not getting benched any time soon. At least not unless a) he gets injured, or b) O'Connell turns out to be a quick learner.

no you're not...you meant it...but you did get called out pretty fast by people who are on to you...

If Cassel comes out and throws 6 INT's, loses 4 fumbles, gets sacked 7 times and throws for < 100 yards and under 40% completion rate, then maybe I'd consider replacing Cassel. But another 200+ yard performance, 60% comp. rate, protect the ball performance, then win or lose, he stays behind center, end of debate.

especially if he's playing without a running game and behind an O-line that looks like it's been inhabited by aliens since the SB...

Cassel is pretty mediocre but he's improving steadily. 5th game since high school? He should be much, much better by year end.

OTOH, his pants wetting performance on the goal line stand was pretty ominous as to his 'poise'.

Your Jets Troll technique of faux complementing and subsequently 'damning with faint praise' was not well done in this post.:p

The only was O'Connell comes into a game this year is if Cassel takes a hard shot and can't finish, otherwise I don't see it

Funny that Guiterrez has been ruled out in case Cassel gets hurt - Is it impossible to think Gutz would come in who has a little more experience in the system?

I think the ship to replace Cassel, if they were going to replace him, sailed with the trade deadline. O'Connell is a rookie and likely nowhere close to knowing the system fully. It will be a make it or break it season for Cassel though...

What difference does it make if he plays badly or not? He's Brady's back up. Unfortunately Brady is not availabe, so this ship is going to sink or swim with Cassel. If we lose too many games to qualify for the playoffs, what differnence does it make if he stays or goes. At this point, it's too late to change QBs IMO. Quite frankly, I think that this team has BIGGER PROBLEMS than the QB position. Until our defense and OL can put together some consistent quality performances, this season is going to be a struggle.

It's really the OL that's under scrutiny and pressure - Cassell's somewhat of an innocent bystander (and I don't mean that as a pun)

But if the OL isn't going to protect their QB, better to have a scrambling QB like O'Connell who can run and make something happen, thereby keeping Defenses more off balance and actually buying himself some more time in the pocket for other plays as defenders might play back slightly, in case he does run.

So count me in the club expecting and waiting for O'Connell to get his shot - but not because I'm so fed up with Cassell's play - just that I'm fed up with the OL's play.

Given adequate protection, it seems to me Cassell has proven he's can keep his cool, run our offense, make the throws and avoid major mistakes. I feel badly that he's not been given the support he deserves.

I don't think you should start a quarterback based on the oline's play. That seems arbitrary. Cassel is more "mobile" than the Tom Brady, but that doesn't mean he can avoid more sacks. Brady is great not because of agility or speed, but that sixth sense that tells him to take a step here or there into better protection. I'd rather have that.
