What if Brady starts next year as a PUPPY?

OK, so it's official fact, most of you guys aren't coping with Brady being gone.
We're coping fine. You the one running around like a chicken with its head cut off, screaming "Help! Help! What will we do if Brady isn't ready to play NEXT YEAR? OMG! OMG! OMG!!!!!!!"

I am? Whoa. I've split in two and the other me is invisible to my eyes. Creepy indeed.

But they would all be football threads,no?

I don't really care for the thread matter either but please explain to us how this is not a New England Patriots football related thread. I'm pretty confused on that one...

Even if Brady recovers quickly, I would be surprised if he is not

on PUP to start training camp. This should give the Patriots a

little time to put together a reasonably good offensive line. I

don't want to see him in a game until the line situation is resolved.

One of the reasons this thread has lots of flak is that the original premise is so poorly thought out. Cassell or a 6-week rental vet? No way that's the real question.

1. Cassel is almost certainly gone. If he gets good enough later this season to get starter money he is unlikely to stay as a presumptive backup even in the unlikely event we match the offer.

2. The Patriots have no problem with a vet QB backup, history shows that. The key is, the vet needs to be smart and most importantly needs to be around from the very first offseason camp in May. And at that point it's unlikely we would know if Brady will or will not be ready. But the Patriots will probably try to sign such a guy in March.

3. Belichick knew after Brady's first offseason what he had with Brady. The first offseason program allows time for great physical and mental development which isn't possible coming directly out of the draft. That's when O'Connell must shine, and it determines whether he is #2 or #3 on the depth chart.

No I also asked if we'd start with Kevin.

Yeah as an afterthought, "I suppose..."

And if I didn't make it clear: the Patriots QB situation will be substantially set (though subject to training camp competition) long before they will know if Brady will start on PUP. So PUP will have zero effect.

I think a more accurate statement is the QB situation will be set long before we know if Brady will start on PUP. "We know" as in fans. BB and Co. will have a much better info regarding Brady's progress then we will be informed of.

I disagree. We have seen enough injuries and recoveries in the NFL to know that there are no certainties no matter how good their info. They may have a better idea but won't know in May, when the QB situation will be decided (subject to training camp of course).

Maybe the forum has an automatic name replacement function and we'd just be able to skip the whole thing.

I don't understand it.

If Rivers played on a torn ACL, and he got surgery and started the season, all this was in January. why can't Brady do the same when he'd be out just about a year? I think he should be ready to go. Hey, if Cassel can get this team somewhere we'd be alright for a few games.

Listen, if it weren't for hypothetical talk around here there would be like 4 threads.

could we try this for a week, and see if we like it better than having 50 "cassel sucks" threads? 4 threads might not be so bad :D

Easy, the boards will crash under the overload of "omg life is oooovvveeerrr" posts if BB announces that Brady is on PUP.

If Cassel manages to survive the year without getting a pitchfork shoved into his throwing shoulder by the masses (and comes back to the Pats) then I would really watch my back if I were him. O'Connell and Gutz better keep an eye out for the sky too.
