Hey guys and gals....It's not all doom and gloom for the future. Yes, Seymour, Harrison and Bru should be cut, but we have a great young core of players that are going to be good in the future.

Lets take a look at the D:

Wilfork - Amazing player, we must keep him.

Warren - Building block of the line

Seymour - Overrated, injury ridden and lazy. He should be cut

Wright - Quality Depth

Greene - Underrated player and a great pass rusher

Vrabel - Needs to take a pay cut or retire

Bru - Love him, but he needs to hang em up

Mayo - Awesome

Gutten - Awesome

Crable - Future Vrabel, but he's faster and more athletic

Alexander - He knows the system and is nice insurance depth

Harrison - God awful in coverage and slow as dirt. Needs to hang em up

Sanders - Played great last year, this year not so much. Good to keep around for depth, but as a whole he sucks.

Meri - Awesome

Wheatley - Wilhite - Both have a future

Hobbs - A legit #2 corner

Oniel - sucks/jag

We are going to have a fast and athletic d in the future. It's obvious that the older lb's, and Seymour being a shell of himself are having a negative impact on the pass rush. Couple that with the fact that we have a lot of rookies out there and viola. I hope Sey, Harrison and Bru are cut. Either that or the retire. I know Sey will want more money when the time comes, so I hope the pats trade him or cut him!

I said much the same thing in a thread the other day and it was deleted.

And I'm a homer to boot!

Yeah, don't know about Seymour. So much of his hit is bonus (already paid) that it may not make sense to cut him.

Everyone else you mentioned should retire or go. We need a new defense. New blood. Preferably someone who can actually rush the passer.

Attempting the old end around I see. Let's see how many yards you gain...

Hey, I'm a Jets Fan and I couldn't agree more!!!!!

Slow as dirt?

I head of old as dirt but never 'slow as dirt'

Who is Gutten? - Wasn't he the young cop in the Police Academy movie series?

And you're still dumbfounded as to what that all meant, aren't you...

You're not a homer. You're either a troll or a dolt.

Were you the one who said that "Cassel was the GREAT QB"?

I'm not sure if I said he was great. I definitely didin't put it in all CAPS. But I said he was improving, and would be one of the top QBs in the league by year end. And yes, I was ridiculed somewhat for that. Called a homer or a troll depending on the person doing the calling.

I'm dumbfounded as to what all meant? I'm dumbfounded as to your comment. I wasn't dumbfounded as to waht the original poster meant. I was surprised my thread was deleted...I didn't say anything other than waht this guy is saying.

And no personal insults. Jerk.

maryjane my woman's intuition tells me something just doesn't ring true when I read your posts. No offense is intended btw, jussayin'.

He wasn't personally insulting you unless you do identify with either being a troll or a dolt. Which I guess you do as you seem to be insulted.

So let's understand this analysis
CASSEL will be one of the best QB's in the league by year end
HARRISON is slow as dirt
VRABEL should lake a bit cut or hang it up (or rather play for the jets)
BRUSCHI should hang it up
SEYMOUR should hang it up
GUTTEN is awesome
ALEXANDER is nice insurance
ONIEL sucks
WRIGHT is quality depth
SANDERS sucks and is OK as depth (why?)

I'd say I would rather listen to another analyst. I would note that Alexander is aweful and will be gone after this year.

But I guess that's point. You want to clean house and start over. Maybe we could be competitive by 2011 or 2012. You might as well fire Belichick and Pioli also. With your philosophy you would need a new GM and HC.

I think only Bruschi and Seymour are the weak links in our D. I still have faith in the secondary and, as I said before the year began, we would be in a lot of shoot-outs (didn't see the Brady injury coming obviously) but as the year went on, it would get better. I still believe that. Seymour, however, is getting paid way too much money to not be a monster on that defensive line. If he continues to suck, we should shop him for draft picks while his name still spikes interest from other teams. I love Bruschi. Always have. But if you still think he's that effective then you should probably have your eyes checked. Just watch Bruschi in the San Diego game. He was nowhere to be found most of the time and everytime we sent him in for a blitz he was a second too slow getting to the LOS and would just run into the OL and get blown back. He just hasn't been the same since '04.

Right. Calling someone a troll or an idiot is not insulting unless they feel insulted...

Well, technically, the OP made all the points except I think I was the one who said Cassel would be one of the best QBs in the league by year end. Maybe naive there, I was defending him against some negative Nancies. I thought that was kind of highly regarded (positive thinking in the face of negativity) on this board. But then I got called a troll or an idiot for it. Fair enough, I guess I was maybe too positive on him, although the jury is still out. Some people (not just me) were talking of tagging him so I was not alone in my high regard for the now lowly Cassel.

This is hilarious.

I am not sure why I am taking this thread seriously. However, the focus over the next two years will definitely be on re-building the defense. And this next off-season is critical. Understand that top veterans are extended a year early. In the draft, we will look for an offensive lineman as we always do; but the focus must be the defense.

I don't expect either Bruschi or Vrabel to hang it up after this year. There is no need. They can still be contributers. They are under contract. The issue is whether they start.

FREE AGENTS after this season
Wright
Alexander (RFA)
Woods (RFA)
Izzo
O'Neal
Lew Sanders
Harrison
James Sanders

FREE AGENTS after next season
Seymour
Bruschi
Green
Vrabel
Wilfork

What I see on the various threads the last couple of weeks regarding Seymour is more about his salary than his play. (Not calling you out Kontradiction, you bring a lot of good points with your comments; it's directed more to some of the other forum members.) While his play in the losses hasn't been great, neither was that of many of his teammates. When he signed his last contract, it was valid based on his level of play at that time. He's signed through 2009, and his next contract will be much less, based on his level of play this year and the last couple of years. If his play I would think he'd be gone. Hopefully that alone is enough incentive for him to crank it up for the rest of the year. I don't care how much a player is making, I just want the players on the field to be the ones that give the Pats the best chance to win each week.

Please stop quoting this obvious troll, you are invalidating my ignore list... :)

See? I'm a troll because I though (along with everyone else but moreso) that Cassel was promising (I actually do still think he has promise). See how quickly they turned on that poor guy?
