No...it isn't too PC, which I abhor, to point out that hooligans exist in every ethnicity, since it is true. But please......he was just stating facts. And yes....on the west coast.....Hispanic gangs are a huge problem......racist or not....it is just a fact. This is from somebody who lives in the middle of it.

The train of thought you had is why we pat down grandmothers at the airport instead of just middle eastern men. Again....just facts. Everybody won't like them, but they are still facts.

And this is not meant as a personal attack. Please don't take it as such.

The bigger issue and more germane to the thread is why the Chargers don't up the security. They owe that to paying customers. I am actually happy that a Charger fan is agreeing with this. I wonder if the Chargers will actually do something about this. It may take a tragedy for them to respond meaningfully.

True, the security/fan experience issue is more germane to this thread than the PC thing. But I just wanted to clarify that I commented only after reading at least 4 posts that alluded to a "south of the border/hispanic" angle--not just the original post. And I didn't see anyone talking about a "gang" issue per se--sounded like something slightly different.

i am a black male and i got the snot kicked out of me in new england in 05. I went to the jets game that year too, the worst i got was paper airplanes thrown at me. The boston crew were a bunch of drunk white guys.

I look like a Mafia leg breaker, so I've never really had any over the top fan reactions when I attend games in other venues.Never been to Quallcom, but I've been to more Jets/Pats games over the years down there than I can remember. Of course you're gonna get targeted by the 50 bottles of Bud/shots of Jager crew, but that goes with the territory.The Miami parking lot is no picnic either. I would guess it's the same across a wide range of venues and rivalries. I have ,however, met a ton of fantastic NFL football fans every place I've gone, so it sort of balances out the assorted d!ckheads you tend to encounter no matter where you go.

I went to the game as well. Little bit diiferent for me as I lived in San Diego for about 9 years and many of my friends are diehard Charger fans. Still, many, many took the time to talk a bunch of crap. Other than a cheap elbow throw at my side, in passing, by some a ss that I let go, with restraint from my Charger friends... everything went as expected. Charger fans are very bitter these days, as they have the right to be, I guess. Losers

This is why I don't wear Pats gear on the road, or if I do I keep it covered except when I'm at my seat. It's just not worth it to me. I'm a fan, not a player. I don't need a uniform to prove my support for a team I've traveled 8000 miles to see.

I understand your point, but I look at it another way. I always wear my Pats gear to road games and have endured my share of taunts, teasing and verbal abuse, but have never been attacked physically. I always have the mindset of behaving respectfully, as you would being a guest in any environment. I cheer for the Patriots but am not obnoxious about it or "in-yer-face" to the home team's fans. I think it's important to show that Pats fans can be respectful and have an element of class reflecting the organization they support.

I've also been to Patriots games at Ravens, Redskins, Jets, Giants, Bills and Steelers, never a serious problem.

I agree, I am not sure why this is a Hispanic thing. If it happened to be more Hispanics at the Chargers game causing trouble its because they have a large population of Hispanics in the area. The problem here had nothing to do with Gangs it had to do with drunk people who dont really care about the sport as much as drinking and fighting. Gangs may fall in this category but I promise you it was gangs doing this stuff in old Foxboro or gangs doing it now in Buffalo. Bottom line is sports are going to bring out these yahoos that use it as an excuse to party and fight. It is up to the venue to control it and if they don't than you get trouble.

I was at the game and a real nice group of Chargers fans in front of me (yes they were Hispanic). The Guy came in and booed me and gave me some crap but after acting all serious he smiled and laughed with me which was funny because I thought he was gonna give me crap all game but it was just good natured fun. I made it a point to shake his hand on the way out as it is always more fun to go on the road and watch a game with the real fans of the other team.

I did notice a fight a few sections over but my experience was very friendly and despite the awful play by the Pats was fun.


I was at the 49ers game the week before and again my section was good no problems for me though I did notice there were a few groups of people roaming around looking for fights much more than I noticed in San Diego.


I cant stress this enough It is the Booze that is the problem not the race. Just about every fight I have seen at a sports event had booze involved. I remember a few years ago at our beloved Gillette this guy came stumbling in obviously intoxicated. I turned to my father and said no way this guy makes it throught the game and sure enough ten minutes later he was fighting and gone. I have similar stories in Buffalo and the meadowlands.

the BFD is that it comes off as racist when the problem IMO has more to do with booze than gangs, race, or even security though this obviously could have prevented some if not most.

I have no problem with you being descriptive if the problem were only a San Diego Hispanic thing but the problem occurs all over the country with all types off people. I didn't see a descriptive word of drunk which I am sure was the case instead he called out the hispanics as a whole.

And the problem runs deeper than just sports too as you can always see groups of kids drinking that have nothing better to do than start fights on any major bar strip in any major city.

I was there as well. I thought the tailgate scene was pretty good. The parking situation reminds me of Miami in that they let you in and then you roam aound and look for a spot. We got there early and parked where So Cal Bong said he was going to be but saw no sign . We were right along side the road coming in and saw that colored paper on the window for his group but they were split up. The Chargers fans near us were pretty nice. The stadium was not as friendly. We were all wearing Pats gear and (as usual) the taunts came only after they felt the game was in hand . The funniest moment came when some knucklehead wearing a Raiders coat was walking around the lower walkway. I thought a riot was going to break out . Way more anger than was directed at Patriots fans.

You can call it whatever you feel comfortable calling it. I didn't have time to conduct a sociological study on the phenomenon. But, I've been around enough of this sort of thing to know group mentality when I experience it. I DID NOT say it was "organized gangs," but definitely "gang-like." It was serious crap, not random drunkenness. It was much different than anything I've seen in other stadiums across the country.

Sorry you missed us but we were right where we said we would be, between G4 and H4. In fact we were in the very row in which the parking lot section pole signs were located. We might have been slightly closer to the H4 pole but that's only because other Pats fans who beat us there were already in the exact midpoint between the G4 and H4 poles which was fine and at most, we were 8 - 10 parking spots away from it. If you were along the entry lane, then yeah you were too far back by about 3 rows. I'm not sure what gave you the impression that we would be against the wall but knowing that those areas fill up early, that was never our intention. Not to rub it in but anyone who didn't join us missed out getting to try on and take pictures with Super Bowl 36 and 38 rings thanks to a players family who joined us.

In any case, the tailgate was certainly the highlight of the day.
