(WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE) It's obviously early, but I think we can all agree that even if we do make the playoffs (which I still see being at least a 50percent chance of happening) chances are we will lose in the first, or at best second round. So, here's the question: if I told you that the furthest we could possibly get is the second round what would you rather have an early playoff loss, or a 6 or 7 win season and an early draft pick?

If they learn from their mistakes, I think they will be fine. I don't see a trophy, but I think they atleast get in the playoffs.

8-8 gets you about a mid teens pick in the draft and thats where NE picks in April of 2009

The only way NE makes these playoffs is if upsets out of the ordinary occur (as in tonights game for example) and all of a sudden every team is playing .500 ball - Then they could sneak in and maybe end up as good as 9-7

I'm asking what would you rather have, not what do you think will happen.

Rather have the Superbowl but that isn't going to happen so I'll take an early pick which hopefully we'll be able to trade for extras.

We have a lot of holes that need to be plugged.

I'm back and forth. I still want to see a somewhat exciting season. I mean I go into every game wanting a win obviously, but in the big scheme of things a higher draft pick would be better for the future.

Obviously I'd prefer we make the playoffs, but if the premise of the poll is that we'd be guaranteed to lose once we got there, then I would take the draft pick. I think this team is right back near the top next year with Tom Brady back, so I'd love to be able to add a top talent on the defensive side of the ball.

I think we'll be an 8-8 team...at best 9-7.

We dont have the offensive firepower to beat the Broncos, Colts, Steelers, Cardinals. Bills,Jets,Dolphins could all beat us too.

Not to insult anyone by going over Football 101, but once you get to the playoffs, anything can happen.

How many prognosticators expected the Giants to win the Super Bowl as of the start of the playoffs?

It's a brand new season and much depends on the health of your team - and the health of others - when the new Playoff Season starts. Everyone's at 0-0.

yeah if this is to be taken literally, it should be everybody saying "going all the way," since it's supposed to be what we want to happen.

I said what I think will happen, which is early playoff exit. There's also not a choice on the table. You don't stop trying to win just because you might get a higher pick out of it. And you don't stop rooting for a win either. I mean, it's just not human nature.

I'm not sure what to think right now. I want a trophy, but they are not playing like a playoff caliber team right now. That could change though.
I think that I need to see more of this team before I make up my mind.

They weren't playing like a playoff-caliber team at this point in 2003 or 2005, either.

I hate the question as there's a pre-destined result. I guess I'd take the early playoff loss as I don't want a 5-11 zit on our record for the decade of brilliance.

Early draft picks are expensive and have been busts. I thought Reggie Bush was a sure thing and we would be seeing New Orleans in the SB by now (well they did play in one NFC championship game). JeMarcus Russell gives Matt Cassell a run for his money at being one of the worst starting QB in this league.

Pats are better off winning as many games as they can and sell their 1st pick for multiple picks to rebuild their depth chart. The war of attrition is lost this year for the Pats.

Why is it either / or?

I thought we were going deep into the playoffs and probably win teh SB this year? What happened?:(

In 2001, after 5 games we were 2-3, had lost to the Jets, Bengals and gotten killed by the Dolphins. Our 'new QB' was 2-1. This year we are 3-2, our new QB is 3-2, and you are posting today what our chances are in the playoffs?

oh, i know, but i'm just asking for arguments sake. IF i had a crystal ball and told you we will lose in the first or second round, what would you rather have?

Andy, you and I both know our defense this yr isn't in the same stratosphere as the 01 defense. As for the question, it's just to get people thinking before the result actually happens, as to what they would rather the outcome (given the crystal ball theory of an early playoff loss a definite).

I never, ever, ever want to have a losing season. I'd rather make it to the playoff's and get my ass kicked than have a losing season.
