I really like what I see he's a ball hawk and has made some really nice swats

Re: Merriweather

Sadly, the Venus di Milo has better hands....

for this season?

its kinda hard to catch a ball when ur getting tackled....

I like his anticipation. He just needs to work on those hands.

Re: Merriweather

I was one of those posters. I didn't think Meriweather was even on our board. No one questioned Meriweather's ability. It was his character that was in question. In recent years, the patriots have stayed away from drafting players with perceived character issues.

I would mention that he was a first round choice. For him to be a solid backup in his second season is just what we should expect. Some expected much more.

I agree. I remember posters telling me their was no way the pats would draft him. I knew better!

I thought he was on the fast track to draft bust. I gotta keep up...LOL

Re: Merriweather

Meriweather has been one of the best players on our Defense. Especially in coverage.

He's playing really good.

Re: Merriweather

He's one of the few non-busts in our last few drafts. And, btw it's spelt Meriweather (with one r).

Re: Merriweather

Now all we need is another ILB, OLB, SS, CB and our defense won't look too bad.

Seriously with Bruschi, Harrison, Vrabel, Seau, Colvin, all gone or soon to be gone... we shouldve rebuilt this defense a long time ago.

Re: Merriweather

Thats where Mayo, and hopefully Crable come into the picture, they're the first bricks of rebuilding this linebacking corps preparing for the departure of the old guard, Thomas is just a stop gap in that regard.

Re: Merriweather

I take it you don't like Mayo, Crable, Thomas, Meriweather, Wheatley, Wilhite, Guyton and James Sanders.

We have rebuilt at LB and at DB.

I think Sanders could be upgraded, but if we have enough talent around him he'll be a solid enough Strong Safety.

Next thing we need is either a d-lineman or a offensive tackle, whichever has the most value when we pick next year

Not a criticism here, since technically that's what he is. FWIW, though, if it were up to me, I'd replace "starters"/"backups" with "play percentage," determined after the game, and awarded based on number of downs played.

I'm still trying to figure out if he's a FS or a SS, but one thing is for sure and that's he has improved since last year.

I don't know what possible 'character' issues he may have. If it means doing what you have to do to protect your life and the life of a friend in a legal and righteous manner, I'd share a foxhole with that kid anyday.

He worked on those hands this offseason, and it has paid off. I don't know what you have seen this year that tells you differently?

Multiple would-be interceptions that were dropped.

For instance? I'm not saying you are wrong, nothing sticks out to me this year. The one in the Chargers game was not an easy catch at all as he was getting thrown to the floor.

Re: Merriweather

Has he played more than James Sanders who he backs up at free safety? But your point is well taken. He is as important to this year's defensive backfield success as either of the other two safeties.
