We all know that Varitek is not the hitter he use to be.

All we ever hear is his value to the pitching staff.
Now his glove is starting to fail him. He has had multiple pass balls in
this series already.

He is also far worst than his 220 average reflects.

His biggest problem with the bat is his situational hitting. Put a guy on third with less than 2 outs and Varitek is the last gut in the world I want to see at bat. He will pop out strike out or foul out. He will do anything, but score the run. All that is needed is a ground ball to the right side of the infield or a fly ball deep enough to score the runner.

Please do not resign Varitek. Offer him arbitration and if he does not take it, accept the draft pick compensation and move on.

I wont cry when he leaves. He is terrible. This game is still not over but they are taking some awful swings.

i think the biggest problem for vtek is his off the field issues. upcoming divorce and having his new Chickie in the locker room everyday has got to be a huge distraction.

Varitek is a black hole in the Sox lineup. He's terrible in clutch situations as a right handed batter and atrocious as a lefty. The Sox should let him go when his contract runs out. He shows the greed of many major leaguers who lust after the $$$$ but whose talent is non existant. Captain my *****.

I just love it when a local team loses and the fans find their scapegoat.

Angels series he was fantastic in the minds of most of them too most probably.

Offensively Tek has struggled this year, which has been frustrating, however he has been very good behind the plate, something nobody can question.

Sox lost 9-1 with down nights on both sides of the plate. Get over it and let's square the series 2-2 now.

His defense is slipping too.
That first passed ball that cost us our first run was pathetic.

He has had a couple passed balls in critical situations in the playoffs.
He also misplayed that run down on the blotched squeeze play against
the Angels. He should have thrown the ball. When that ball came rolling
out we were lucky the ump got the call right.

It is all about his situational hitting.... He does not have a clue on how
to score a runner from third with less than 2 outs.

Tell Boras to shove his 4 yr./36 mill. contract up his fuggin azz!

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with the Captain.. He's 36, he has no bat, but the team sees value in him.. And they have a history of getting rid of players once they think they're on the decline and not worth what they're asking (Schilling notwithstanding).

My guess is tek gets something like 1 year 6 mil...and is forced to take it as no better offer appears. He hasn't been able to hit the ball all year, and his defense is struggling. While tek has never been great at gunning down baserunners, this year his throws to second have been terrible.

However, there's not much better out there to replace him with. Cash isn't the answer, neither is ross. Kottaras and Brown were decent down in AAA and AA, but the idea of going in with 2 rookie catchers is scary. And nothing is out on the free agent market unless you use Buckholz to pry a young catcher away from someone else. So in short, I think Tek is back for 1 year. They should give the Captain's tag to Youk however.
