Now we are hearing all these people say that we would still have the same record with Brady?Give me a break!!!This team most likely would be 4-1 with Brady even with this crappy defense because we would put up points.

Agree 100%

Re: Come on now.

With Brady, this team would be 4-1 or 5-0. No doubt about it in my mind.

Headed towards a 12-14 win season even with our pass rush and secondary problems.

Brady would give us a chance even with our occasional sputtering D...with Cassell this team cannot win if the D falters just a little bit.

I don't know if we would have been 4-1 with Brady or not, but I know for sure that we would definitely be 3-2 with any other QB besides Brady right now. At least any back up we could have had for Brady or brought in after Brady went down. We would still be 3-2 with Garcia, Simms, Culpepper, O'Connell, etc.

Brady isn't coming back. We have and had no chance to get a replacement half of what he is. Please stop comparing this situation to if Brady was in.

Re: Come on now.

This team would never lose to an Eli Manning led Giants team in the SUPERBOWL with Brady. NEVER NEVER NEVER. I am 100% confident Brady would not... wait what, uhh nevermind.

Seriously though, no one is perfect and we have no idea what our record WOULD be. It could be 5-0, or still 3-2, who knows? Obviously every single Patriots fan would love Brady to be playing, but he won't this year so let's get over it PLEASE.

You may be right, but I would be willing to lay down lots of cash that with Garcia, it would have been a more competitive game. And he would have put up more than 3 points (that last TD was garbage time).

Even if this career average QB Garcia could come in here and be better than Cassel. How do you propose to get him? What is he worth, what will they take for him? Have BB/SP made any contact regarding this?

Seriously how much of the future would you trade away for ONE year? Go re-read the Patriots mission statement and then tell me EXACTLY what you would do, and then prove to me it is worth it and has not been attempted yet. Because you know so much, mr. intelligent fan.

Precisely. While quality QB play would have decreased the margin of victory by the enemy, this team as it is currently playing on the field would be 3-2 at best w/o Tom Brady.

Given that fact, and the fact as long asserted here that BB will NOT trade to bring in a vet QB, Patriots fans should look at the team as a whole to see what deficiencies need to be addressed so that the team can play better this season and be better prepared for NEXT season when TB returns. Some impatient fanboys feel that this means start O'C but BB clearly believes that rookies need seasoning before being thrown to the wolves. He knows that Cassel is gone next year. He'll bring O'C along per plan so that he has a healthy, free of bad habits (like scrambling for his life making chaos plays, entertaining the Michael Vick fanbase) shot next summer of becoming a viable backup to Brady.

Re: Come on now.

with brady we were 4-4 and got blown out at home vs SD in 2005. hypotheticals are always interesting but if brady was here , there is no gurantee the rest of the offense wouldnt have an injury bug or something. ifs and buts arent always the same.

We got smoked by San Diego in 2002 with Brady at QB throwing 2 bad decision picks. We're 3-2 with future HOF Brady, just by smaller margins of defeat.

Which game would the Pats have won with Brady? The defense has given up 89 points in the last three games. The offensive line is losing the battle at the line of scrimmage on both running and passing plays. I doubt that with Brady the Pats would have scored three more touchdowns last night, or four more touchdowns against Miami. It's not realistic to expect to win when you're allowing 400 yards of offense and 30 points.

Re: Come on now.

LOL - Lot's of entertainment in there.

BIG TIME BETHEL
Bethel Johnson recorded a 54-yard kickoff return to the San Diego 47-yard line in the second quarter, setting up a 30-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Tim Dwight two plays later. The kickoff return was the seventh return of 50 or more yards in Johnson’s 3-year career. The 54-yard return was the longest for the Patriots since Johnson’s 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at Cleveland on Dec. 4, 2004.

So if we lost 40-20 or 40-24 (the Chargers probably could have put up more points if they wanted to late in the game), you would have been happier? Garcia is a West Coast Offense QB. He doesn't fit the Pats' system. He doesn't know the system either. He would have made a lot of mistakes last night too. Perhaps more costly ones than Cassel.

Before people throw around QB names, you gotta actually see if the guy can actually fit the system the Pats run. Guys like Garcia and Culpepper clearly don't.

It's all hypothetical.. everything we fans are doing..

Is it possible the pats, with a healthy brady, dominate time of possession, play ahead all game and force the chargers into one or two mistakes?

Hypothetically speaking, why not? If mean, if people are gonna say hypothetically the outcome would be the same with Brady, why can't I say it wouldn't? :D

why cant it simply be that there are better teams there this yr than us ? i mean we have been consistent throught 8 yrs and no team has sustained this ,not to mention the same cassel and same BB played previous week at SF and not a peep came from anyone here.
Bottomline in my opinion, the offensive line needs to get fixed. They may have gotten away with brady and his quick release but cassel needs more time and they have to give that to him like any other line would.

:agree:

we would have won the dolphins game no doubt about it, the Charger game would have been close simply because the Chargers were out for blood.

This is a silly point to "debate" - those who say the team would be 3-2 are simply pointing out that one can't count on any offense - certainly not one manned by a backup QB - to score more than 30 points a game.

For what it's worth, last year's Patriots with Brady averaged 25 points per game over the last 6 games.

If they averaged that amount this season in each game, given the defensive performance, they'd be (prepare yourself) 3-2.

Given that - and the fact that you're really only arguing about ONE game, with your 4-1 prediction, you might want to can the "give me a break" derision.
