Hey everyone. As all of you know we transferred to a new server a couple of weeks ago which has done the job we needed in ending game day issues. Aside for a couple of hiccups here and there all-in-all we've eliminated the server slowdowns and errors that used to creep up, and it's also allowed me to enable many more features of vBulletin to enhance forum viewing.

However, as a result of our growth the cost per month has doubled for me from where it was a year ago (it's more than a car payment) which is why I added the option back in June for those of you who wanted to donate. Many of you have, and I appreciate it as it's helped me cover the costs to this point. With this new server now in place it's forced me to need to run a "fund drive" to try and raise some money to try and pay for things going forward.

We currently have 86 people who have donated, which I'm very thankful for and greatly appreciate it. However, to pay for a full year of hosting, we're going to need approximately 300 people in total to contribute. The good news is we're already almost one third of the way there, so hopefully it won't take long to reach our goal.

For those who do contribute, you do get some things in return and there are some benefits will be added to your account. You can find the information in the thread below:

I have to be honest, I'm not thrilled about having to do this. But unfortunately this site isn't a money making endeavor and with internet advertising dropping off almost on cue with the stock market, it's now become a bit more necessary. This site is something I've continued with simply because I'm just glad to be a part of such an incredible group of people. Quite honestly I really appreciate all the support and considering the season we're having, I know that this isn't exactly high on anyone's list of things to contribute to. But for those of you who do donate I do want to say thank you, and I hope this place is one that you enjoy being a part of. Rest assured I'll never stop trying to make it better, and you'll continue to see impovements. Hopefully all of you also know that you can PM me if I can ever help with anything or if you ever have any suggestions. This board is here for all of you, and as I mentioned without you it wouldn't be worth coming to. I remember the days many years ago when there were no members...and it's definitely much more fun now :)

In the meantime thanks again to all of you, and hopefully we can reach our goal. For those who would prefer to use "snail mail" (the post office) let me know and I'll PM you with the details. Please bump this thread as you see fit to help keep it going, as I'd rather not have it get lost in the "stickies" at the top of the forum.

Thanks again,

Ian

Can you donate beyond a VIP level?

Cosign. I will gladly donate again for nothing.

And for everyone who HASN'T donated, it's worth it just for the VIP Forum gameday thread. You don't have to dead with the same 10 people saying "Cassel SUCKS! The defense SUCKS!" 30 different ways.

Re: PatsFans.com FUND DRIVE

I was wondering the same thing. Guess we'll find out tomorrow

Same here. I'll donate 5 more times happily. This place is a steal.

And if I'm given the power to ban posters as a result, that's OK too.

Oh man, don't get my hopes up, PJ!

That and can you donate more on a one-time basis or whenever and as often you feel like it as opposed to having a specific amount automatically taken out at specific times,if I have that right?

Re: PatsFans.com FUND DRIVE

I have it set up through the board software for it to be an annual donation, which basically makes it $1.50 a month for people who want to contribute. At the end of each year you'll see a window that will pop up reminding you that it's about to expire and if you want to cancel it you can just PM me and I'll stop it from going through again. Otherwise it will just renew automatically.

I really didn't want people to have to donate above and beyond that because I wanted to keep it as reasonable as possible. I know I've looked at hundreds of other sites that are charging 49.95 to 69.95 annually, which I thought was a bit much. I thought this was more reasonable. To keep everyone updated I'm also going to post in the area below the stickies with an update to let everyone know where we're at.

To update you as of right now we've had one sign-up since I posted this last night. Hopefully we get a few more than that

Ian--to echo someone else's suggestion--what if a person wants to give more than the VIP contribution?

I may install that option at some point to allow people to donate individual amounts depending on how things go with this. I'll give this a few days and we'll go from there.

Re: PatsFans.com FUND DRIVE

Can it be made payable in 1 go?

I would hate £0.9 going out of my account each month.

Yes, the $18.00 is annually, not monthly. Not to worry

Come on you cheap bastards! Dig deep.

Come on you cheap bastards! Dig deep.

We're up to 92, it's not quite that bad Patjew. After all, we are coming off of an ugly loss

Thank you to those of you who contributed today, I appreciate it. I'll update everyone each day to let you know where we're at.

I signed up. I waffled for a while, but come on? For $18, where else on the net can you go to get this kind of timely, relevant Pats news and discussion?

Someone just sent this to me:

$.05 x 365 days = $18.25

So it's actually less than a nickel a day for a wealth of information :)

Irregardless of that, for all intensive purposes the rest of these cheap bastiches should dig deep and pony up the nickel a day. It sickens me to not see regular poster achieve VIP status. There's no excuse. If this place isn't worth that much to them, they shouldn't be members here.

Let me know if you'd like to donate but can't afford the $1.50/month so I can spot it for you.

Not to start a "guilt trip" on anyone who hasn't donated, but here's another way to break it down:

Say you spend approximately fifteen minutes a day on PatsFans. That equals out to one hour, forty-five minutes per week, or roughly the average length of a movie.

Average movie price: $7.00
One week of VIP membership on PatsFans: $0.34

The impetus for me was I simply wanted to contribute to a place that I enjoy, and now with the AOL boards apparently closing up at the end of this month I think I'll enjoy this board a lot more if I can give myself the option of escaping the ever-increasing general insanity:eek:
