Hey Bill...The experiment is OVER!

Not open for further replies.

Culpepper has a 64% career completion percentage.

Culpepper has gone to 3 Pro Bowls.

Culpepper has numbers that Cassell could only DREAM about.

Culpepper is twice the QB Cassell will ever hope to be.

Culpepper is only 31 years old, the same age as Randy Moss and Tom Brady.

Culpepper, with talent surrounding him, could rejuvenate his career if given a chance. Oakland has been a mess since 2003, and the Dolphins were a mess until this season.

Culpepper had 33 TDs as a first year STARTER in 2000.

Culpepper had 39 TDs in 2004 despite Randy Moss missing essentially 5 1/2 games and scoring 13 TDs.

The only thing that is legit concern for Culpepper is the fumbling problem.

But there's another QB playing that has had the same fumbling problem since 2002 and he's still a pretty good QB at age 37.....Kurt Warner.

Strong arm, still decent mobility (not what it was b/f the injury), and a proven commodity when you surround him with talent, unlike what he had with the Raiders, Dolphins, and that 2005 Vikings squad.

Seriously, considering Culpepper is a scary thought.

But watching Cassel is excruciating.

At least Culpepper would have hit Randy with a TD when he got by Cromartie. That was a gimme that Cassel manage to botch.

As bad as this sounds, I was rooting for Cassel to get injured when we got down 27-3 because I wanted someone else in there. That's how low I think of Cassel right now.

you must not have read his stats for the last 3 yrs. selective reader perhaps? Do you really think he'd be out of work, if he still had something in the tank? He hasnt been the same since he lost Moss.

I would seriously put in Doug Flutie over Cassell at the moment, heck I'd go with Thigpen! Where in the world is O'Connell?

I'm not going there to wish an injury on Cassell. He's a good guy and he's trying his best.

He just SUCKS! He is what he is. He's a 1 or 2 read QB that need receivers wide open....he cannot throw or is unwilling to throw in tight windows. That's why you see him throwing mainly short passes and screens.

It's obvious that Belichick will stick with Cassell until we go on a losing streak or it become painfully obvious to even the most apolegetic Cassell fan that he needs to be replaced.

Benching Cassell NOW for O'Connell (rookie QB) would be symbolic of giving up on the season, and you cannot do that when you are 3-2 and 1 game out of first place.

I forecast Cassell stays as starter until after the Indy or Buffalo game...then we will see O'Connell.

Hey Bill...The experiment is OVER!.

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

What the **** happened to the Patriot fans I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go root for Cassel, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Manning, he's a dead man! Losman, dead! Farve...

Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

We're just the guys to do it.

Let's do it.

*Let’s do it*!

Matt Cassell can't read defenses, either.

Cassell has one or two reads...if it's not open, he pulls the ball down and runs with it.

Culpepper is a much MUCH better option. Look at his 2004 season. 39 TDs. Only 13 to Moss. Moss missed 5 1/2 games that season after going down to injury in the Saints game.

If Culpepper stats were inflated because of Moss, then what would Cassell stats be without Moss? Cassell sucks WITH Moss!

How many times have Cassell thrown to Randy in the end zone? Does Cassell know how to throw a fade pattern in the end zone? I haven't seen him throw ONE fade to Randy yet. Line Randy in the slot and let him go one on one with a DB in the corner of the endzone. No DB can jump with Randy IF the ball is thrown up HIGH.

It's either O'Connell, Culpepper, or sticking with Cassell until this team is out of the playoff hunt.

Fantastic post. You are right on. I thought that we are supposed to have a QB replacement that "gives us the best chance to win". That is bogus. Why did we draft O'Connel. I smell another lousy draft pick if he isn't in there already. Who was the "bean bag" of a scout who recommended Cassel?
I guarantee you that Culpepper (I am not a huge fan so I am objective) can win more for the Pats than Cassel this year. Anyone else agree?

All you "smarter than thou's" out there. With an extra win to get us into the playoffs on the line, who would you pick be? Here come the lies.

Seriously, is this what things have come to?

They did not draft O'Connell with the expectation that he would, should, or even necessarily could be able to start this year. They drafted him for the future, not the present.

And, I'll say this again: you can't have everything. If the Pats spend, say, $2M/yr on their backup QB, that's $2M they can't spend anywhere else. If they trade for a QB right now, that's a draft pick they won't be able to use next spring. So unless you think this team is one or two moves away from being a near-SB lock, you're mortgaging your future for small short-term gains.

And Culpepper used to be so good because he could run around in the backfield for 5-7 seconds until someone got open. He can't do that anymore. Culpepper is as dumb as bricks and relied solely on his physical skills. He doesn't have those physical skills anymore.

People complain about how many sacks Cassel has, but people must have forgotten how many sacks Culpepper took while he started in Miami.

I do have to agree that the Pats blew it on Cassel. He was a seventh round pick and you don't waste seventh round on players who aren't going to be future HOFers.

Also, of course O'Connell is a bust. Thank you for bringing out the obvious. Yes, the QB position is the hardest position to adapt to the NFL and the Pats took O'Connell as a future second QB because he has tons of talent, but needs some polishing; but the fact that O'Connell isn't playing and a top candidate for MVP is a clear indication he is going to be a bust.

I do agree Culpepper can win more games than Cassel this year. Unfortunately, it would be for teams the Pats play. As bad as Cassel has been at times, he hasn't been making a lot of costly mistakes like interceptions. I can't say Culpepper would do the same.

BB: Pees, what is the worst fraternity of players on this team?

Pees: Well that would be hard to say, sir. They're each outstanding in their own way.

BB: Cut the horse****, son. I've got the game breakdown right here. Who blew a truckload of coverages? Who let passes sail over their heads.

Pees: You're talking about Deltha, sir.

BB: Of course I'm talking about Deltha, you TWERP!

Hey IronHelmet... just maybe you were wrong and Bill was right.

Can you imagine such a crazy thing? Bill is NOT perfect but he may actually have a better grasp of his team's strengths and weaknesses than you do.

Do you like ice cream with your humble pie?

I know this is 2 weeks overdue, but that, sir, was brilliant!
