this isnt matt cassels loss but the defenses loss.

or the even with tom brady the pats dont win this because the defense didnt make any stops.

the defense wouldnt of been out there all damn day if the offense had anything going.

its a good thing i wasnt expecting them to win this game.

Time of possession: Patriots 31:34, Chargers 28:26.
Offensive plays: Patriots 64, Chargers 55
Chargers drives: FG, TD, missed FG, punt, punt, TD, TD, FG, FG, and then when the score was 27-3 in the 4th quarter, a fumble and a punt.

Make no mistake, Cassel was bad tonight. But this was a team loss, and the defense was just as responsible as Cassel - and the o-line and McDaniels. The first two drives were unacceptable; I'll blame the offense for the Chargers TD just before the half when San Diego got the ball in great field position. The defense needed to come up with a play and opened up the 2nd half by allowing a 98-yard touchdown drive.

This was a team loss, you're not going to win when you give up 30 points. This is a very good example of 'the QB gets too much credit for a win and too much blame for a loss.' Cassel had a bad game, but so did the rest of the team. Even with a healthy Brady the Chargers would have won tonight.

You're not going to win when your QB can be described by the following;

-throws stupid interceptions
-can't complete a pass more than 5 yards
-holds the ball way too long and gets sacked
-rarely gets more than a TD per game
-sucks in the red zone
-throws the ball away as soon as theres the slightest chance he'll get hit
-has no confidence
-hasn't started a game since high school
-has no business being in the NFL

Basically Matt Cassel does 3 things:

1. Short screen pass to Faulk/Morris/Welker
2. Runs for 5-7 yards
3. Attempts a deep ball to the best deep threat in the league(Moss), but fails 95% of the time.

I won't completely blame the loss on Cassel. But this game shouldve been WAY closer than it was. If we didnt have the WORST QB in the league, this game would've come down to a few points.

Re: cant wait for the....

maybe cassel couldve covered vincent jackson also...it wouldve been close.

Re: cant wait for the....

Cassel was bad. No one is arguing.

The defense was just as bad.

So the Pats' defense was out there all game yet the Pats won the time of possession battle. Brilliant analysis!

You do realize that all three of the Chargers' TD were each on 4 play drives.

well its an honest mistake, it just seemed that way because the pats d didnt look all that good.

this is basically what this threads intentions were about, of corse cassel wasnt at fault for some of the major plays, but my point is, and this goes for the miami game too, that he isnt playing good enough to win even when the defense isnt doing their jobs, if he isnt out there playing well, it directly affects how the game goes.

are you being sarcastic? if not, my thread isnt a direct opinion of my self but what i thought some of the people around here will be saying based on how people reacted to the miami loss. this loss cant be all cassels fault but come on, look at how he has been playing, would you want to play on a team when the QB is playing like that, it has to have some affect.

Excellent post. The D was as horrible as I have seen in years tonight. Deltha O'Neal has got to go.
