That has been running on ESPN and ABC all day. I haven't been watching TV all day but off and on to check the college games.

Yes he would be an interesting an interesting addition to the Patriots this year but the devil is always in the details. What would they want? What would he be willing to take for us to stay under the cap?

I don't think it will work for us. I wouldn't mind giving a 3rd rounder or even a second rounder. But his salary demand may be too much for someone who has a couple of year left.

How many years left on his contract? I'd imagine we have space for him this year. Maybe he'd rework his salary to be cap-friendly?

Can he or will he want to be a blocking TE? That's what they need.

I wrote in another post how great of a trade it would be for not only this year but next year when Tom Brady comes back. However, with Tom Brady out, are the Patriots still considered a contender? Anyway, I could see the Giants, Panthers and Eagles making a play for Gonzo.

You know he can catch the ball too right?

No need to be sarcastic. You know well enough how Belichick uses TEs. Watson and Thomas are servicable receiving TEs and thay have hardly gotten sniffs this season. With the shape of the O-line they need a TE willing to block for the majority of the time he'll be on the field. I doubt this will be attractive to Gonzo.

I see him going to the Giants

i could see NE trying to outbid NYG for him, it depends on if kc minds trading him in conference, i don't think they'll mind as they know they're early in a rebuilding process

as for blocking, the dude loves to block, and is very good at it

i watch tony play sd and the rest of the afc west all season, this guy is a legit top 3 TE in the nfl, personally i'd say witten gates tony, but gates seems to be having nagging injuries the past couple years afeecting his numbers

oh and of course i don't expect him to be traded till monday afternoon/night

this trade actually makes more sense for NE than the giants

when you have a young inexperienced qb, what better present to give him than an all world TE?

plus NE has that extra 2nd round pick because of the sd trade

Well there is also the money he'll demand. The thing about the Pats is that they have a lot of good receivers that aren't being utilized to their fullest now. They're very hesitant to send Faulk, you know his MO, out of the BF for a pass for fear of Cassel getting trashed. Jordon hasn't caught a pass yet. Watson's numbers are way down. If he is an excellent blocker as you indicated, then that's a plus for the move, but all things considered I still don't think it would be in the Pat's best interest right now. Does he play special teams?

lol,

send watson over there, get tony here, and send a 4th rd pick (3rd if we have to) as well

considering tony is willing to take watson's salary...

It's scary to me to think that we would have to start outbidding people to remain contenders. That doesn't strike me as BB's or Peoli's style. Like stooping to the Jets' level.

Personally, I am comfortable with staying put.

Also, I am curious... when was the last time anyone has seen NE use an OL as a TE in any non-goalline package? Could this be an option?

Chiefs are a lousy organization. Instead of trading him for a 3rd or 4th they will hold onto b/c he is worth "2nd" round value at worst in their eyes. theyd rather have a waste of a player than a high pick.

i don't know what type of contract tony has left, and if there would be a restructuring involved

he sounds like he wants out of kc, so i guess it's really up to him , where he plays (i think)

i think desperate times call for desperate measures

i'm only saying this trade makes sense because of the loss of brady

while most of us believe, and rightfully so, that free agency winners are often losers, the same can't be said of trade deadline deals

those often have a really good effect on a team

off the top of my head i can think back to my team getting mccardell and chambers, as two instances where trade deadline deals really helped, and the colts getting macfarland in 06 helped them go to, and win the sb, despite them still technically having one of the worst rush defenses of all time that season.

i'm shocked his salary is so low that seems very low to me.
