Play of Patriot Guyton has been on strong side - The Boston Globe

"He's one of those kids that works hard and keeps on getting better," Belichick said. "As long as he does that, I'm sure his playing time will increase and he will get more opportunities. He continues to take advantage of them."

Nothing but posative's on Guyton from Belichick, sounds like the real deal.

for an undrafted free agent rookie, he is impressive, but in the same way randal gay was impressive (an undrafted free agent rookie who actually contributes decently as a backup). Hopefully, unlike randal gay, he can become starter-worthy.

for those that might like to revisit his combine stats:

I don't know about the rest of the board, but Gary Guyton is the most intriguing player on the team. Mostly because the guy went undrafted despite his insane combine numbers. Another reason why I like him so much is the fact that he's a rookie and already seeing more playing time than any other rookie LB in the Belichick era (except Mayo). I think as the season progresses, Guyton will slowly take over for Bruschi at SILB.

Very glad to hear that Gary Guyton is learning and earning time on the field. I would agree that he is one of the most intriguing players to be acquired in much the same way that Pierre Woods was.

Now I'm hoping to see Redd make some significant steps this year.

Nothing against Guyton or any player, but show me a single player about whom BB has not had good things to say about.

If I remember right, BB spoke only good about Duane Starks (the more visible name among the many recent busts with the Pats) right until the day he was cut.

Hope Guyton does well irrespective of BB or the experts have to say about him. :)

Well...we probably could count Duane Starks snaps as a starter too, but I have to feel the recent trend in this UDFA Reserve ILB's playing time is an indicator on just how BB might be thinking when he gives Guyton some good press.

I would count it as a significant step if Redd survived the entire season on the Practice Squad and was re-signed to a futures contract in January.

I agree with this.

A week prior to cutting Chad Jackson, Belichick was praising him. :)

All to true.

Hoping the difference between Jackson/Starks to Guyton is that Guyton is in his rookie year. Next year, if Bill is making the same comments, they will hold no water on his ability to stay on the roster (not seriously intend since no player is safe).

BB praised him even after he cut him. Anyone know where Chad Jackson is? Burger King?

naw boys, guytons the real deal just needs to get stronger and pursue better angles while going for the ball

It's great to read this about Guyton's development; I was hoping that the Pats would draft him in the late rounds and was really happy when he signed here as a FA. Lots of speed and athleticism- a good football player.

have better pursuit angles when going to the ball* and better tackling from him would be nice as well

I'd have to say that, despite the increased attention given it in practice the past few years, tackling is still an issue with this team.

very good point gwedd

His 225 #s were insane, too, for the wrong reason.

Mayo is better-suited for SILB - though I prefer him at WILB. Guyton is better-suited for WILB. My hope for next season - when Bruschi has retired - is that McKenzie, or somebody else, takes over at SILB; though if Mayo is now at 251, maybe he indeed is the heir at SILB.

Eggs-actly, Batman.

Never believe everything - or anything - a coach, player or exec says for Public Consumption.
