I always find these interviews awkward. There are two facts: Maroney isn't producing very much at all, and he's most likely trying as hard as he can. It's not like he's going to come out and say "yeah I suck guys, sorry".

Hehe, can you imagine if he did? lol

Oh no, we got Vince Young on our hands.

What the heck was that? Why even bother doing an interview in the first place?

Wow he should not speak to the media. His dancing has carried from the field to his interviews.

Wow, hope it's not some other "issue" besides the shoulder. Mysterious.

I thought his stepping out of bounds short of the 1st down was inexcusable, even if he did have a banged up shoulder. Not so sure now, but my only question is if it's a potentially serious injury would they even be putting a RB out there while telling him to try to avoid contact?

I'm over this kid and this interview seals the deal.

I don't know if he needs to check his ego at the door or retire so he can protect his body.

The Pats didn't sign Morris and Jordan because they want Maroney to fail. And if Maroney was insulted by the signings, than he clearly needs to go. Fact of the matter is, he isn't producing. No one can really say why he isn't producing and he said he wouldn't admit it if we guessed correctly.

All I know is he runs to the line of scrimmage and dances around looking for a hole. His ol' teammate Barber nails the hole and I wish he would take that mindset.

The whole interview sounds like a whiny little baby. Dump him. Let him figure out his "issues" and replace him with someone that wants to play football!

Jeez, you guys are hard.

They were mainly asking him about his injury. That was the whole subtext.

You know he's forbidden to talk about it.

Jeez.

Good God, I felt uncomfortable just reading that.

I wouldn't have had the balls to sit there and ask him those questions. I guess that's why I am not a media member.

This board never ceases to amaze me.

You'd think that after 2+ years if his coaches wanted him to "just hit the hole", they wouldn't keep playing him if he refused to or couldn't do it.

The issue is obviously the shoulder. He obviously can't talk about it or BB would kill him. It is what it is, hopefully that damn shoulder heals up sooner rather than later, or at least by playoff time.

He sure talked about it an awful lot without actually saying it was an injury. Not his fault the writer kept persisting, but I'm just wondering if a coach would ever put an injured RB on the field with the understanding that he should avoid banging a into a defender with his shoulder.

I still can't figure out what everyone here is seeing to get upset about.

He's hurt, he's not allowed to say he is hurt which every fan of this team knows, and that is what they kept asking about.

Fans are left with a guessing game so that is what it is. There is an "issue" and either it is or it is not an injury. If it is an injury, it makes no sense to me that the coaches would play a guy who runs out of bounds when they have a healthy Sammy Morris who will drive for the marker. If it is not an injury, then it is a problem executing what the coaches want him to do. Maybe a combination? He clearly has a shoulder injury, and he clearly missed some holes Sunday. Whatever it is, I hope he is more effective Sunday night. They could certainly use a big play threat behind Cassel.

A bit awkward strange..besides an obvious shoulder injury...AND I DO believe that is part of it all...it's really weird..awkward..and..HARD to read..and understand.. Holly said that he really believed he was injured and that THAT has been a large problem....makes sense..

Exactly. Despite the awkwardness of the interview, I find it highly encouraging. The problem he's experiencing is almost certainly a shoulder injury; that's why he was effective at the end of last year running into the pile and ineffective now. I find it hard to reach any other reasonable conclusion based on what was said and not said.

Now, for those who want to believe the worst, the door is open to consider that Maroney's issues are mental or non-injury related. Admittedly, he has happy feet (which I also believe is worse due to the shoulder injury).

We'll see how things go when he's healthy.

I expected the 'no comment' replies about any injury-related questions, but I thought he came across as very defensive ("Is that what they said? What did the fans say? Let me know.”) As somebody else mentioned, it makes me wonder why Maroney even did the interview based on how he came across; he raised more questions than he answered. What's the point of agreeing to an interview and then just saying 'I'd rather not speak'? He'd have been better off simply saying 'I'm sorry, but I'm not going to do any interviews right now; I have my reasons but I can't get in to them right now.'

Maroney is put in a difficult position talking to the press. You know, he knows that he absolutely cannot say ANYTHING about ANY injury. Therefore just having a conversation makes him look like a fool. I liked his answer that even if Reiss hit paydirt he'd say "No". It was honest.

If you as a fan cannot handle this coach imposed policy, may I suggest the JETS or someone else as your team?
