.... just think.
Your team is playing the PATs this season
You've got some kind of grudge againts the PATs.
You've been looking forward to settling scores and getting some respect back.

... but then in the back of your mind there is this nagging little voice ...

"Even if we beat the PATs ... it really doesn't settle anything because
the PATs are without their king pin ... Tom Brady ... it's like beating up a cripple "

If I were from such a team or a fan of such a team ...
... it would be a hollow Victory.

All such teams really have to wait until next year when Tommy is back.

All such games this year come with an *-without Tom Brady

But what is really cool ... if PATs beat such teams, and I think they will,
we can say PATs can beat them even without Tom Brady:D
Oh... the agony :)

And even worse if (hopefully when ) they lose.

Like us saying we beat you with a hand tied behind our back.....:D

that's why i said, aside from the urgency because we're 2-3, this game is a no win situation for the chargers

if we win, who cares, we didn't beat brady, if we lose...oh jesus, we lost to THAT at qb

I don't buy this. All NFL teams care about is winning and making it to the next level.

So, if teams like Miami make the playoffs, their win against us will not hollow. If they don't then it's still a win.

And further, the cripple analogy is lost to me.

i bet if we lose, a lot of pats fans who thought they might lose this game will turn around blame cassel, and coaches for the loss and wont realize at the time that we dont have brady so our chances have reduced :)

Exactly. A win's a win.

I think you may have missed the point or didn't carefully read the following
two lines:

" You've got some kind of grudge againts the PATs.
You've been looking forward to settling scores and getting some respect back. "

Putting it a different way:
Suppose Colts were beating PATs year in and out with Manning at the helm.
Then Manning bust his leg and the PATs come in and beat the Colts WITHOUT Manning.
Yeah a win is a win but there is a hollow feeling because we didn't do it
when Manning was at the helm.

I hate it when a key player gets injured on another team that we are about
to play. I want to beat them at their best or lose trying!
That is what I was trying to convey about "Hollow Victories"

I did read that. It might be sweeter if they beat the Patriots with Brady. I just buy into the hollow victory thing. There are no * by a W.

Now the media and fans may think or say that but not the players.

I missed it. My bad.

There is no such thing as a hollow victory in the NFL.

I'd bet the Jets would love to have that hollow feeling.

Name one team the Patriots beat in 2007 that did not have at least one person that was injured. Was 16-0 hallow?

Is the AFCCG a hollow victory because LT was on the bench?

Name one playoff game that the Patriots won in which the opposing team had zero players injured? Where the three SB wins hallow?

So let me see if I understand you.

You're on a team that wants revenge ... payback for previous losses ...
and the key figure in that handed you the losses is missing during your
'get even' match.
You, GodInAGreyHoodie, feel you got your due anyway???:confused:

If you say yes ... I just do not understand you. I just don't understand
anyone feeling that way.
Ask any guy in sports ... if a key player is missing in a rematch if they are
(edited) not happy but if they don't feel cheated.
Maybe I just hang with different kind of guys. But I've played enough
sports to know what it feels like. Real men want the best you got to
give even if it means I lose.

another thought ...
Please reread the original post. It wasn't talking about
a super bowl game or a normal season game ... it was specifically talking about revenge game ... a get even game ...
if that is one of your motivations then to have a key player out makes a victory of such a game seem hollow.

Maybe it is because I view this as a team sport. Tom Brady didn't beat the Chargers last year, the NEP did.

THAT IS QUITE OBVIOUS. But TB was an important part of that NEP unit.
Without TB just isn't the same.

Ask any Chargers fan if a win tomorrow will mean as much to them in terms of
pay back compared to a win with TB behind center. It just won't even be
close to being the same thing.
You fail to understand the concept here but that is probably my ability
to communicate effectively.

Last year Rivers was injured yet played in the AFCCG and LT sat on the bench. I don't regard it as a diminished W. Were I the Chaagiz, I'd be jacked & pumped if we/they won Sunday regardless of who did or did not play for the hated Patriots.
