Thanks to the Patriots’ PR staff, here’s the complete transcript of Bill Belichick’s Q&A with the media today at San Jose State:BB: It’s nice to be out here in California. We’ve done a lot of work on the Chargers in the last couple of days and they look pretty explosive like they always do. Offensively, [...]

Q: We heard a couple of your players were spotted at Alcatraz yesterday.

BB: Hopefully they were in civilian clothes, not in the prison garb. That's quite a spot out there. I guess if you're going to be in prison, at least you'd get a good view. Pretty scenic.

 classic..........

Why cant BB just answer the Brady questions? Not like he is playing in a few weeks or anything.

Because if you give them an inch they'll ask for a mile? He asks the team to maintain discipline in all areas and he sets the tone from the top down. We focus on the next opponent and the guys who are here. Period. That's how he manages/eliminates distractions. By simply not allowing for any.

I agree. And maybe Brady prefers the team not to release any info. It is his legally protected right.

I just read the article and was about to comment prior to seeing these responses. I thought the way BB defelected the Brady, Raiders and 'will you stay here again' questions sent a very big message to the team: focus solely on one thing and one thing only, this game against San Diego. MoLewisrocks summed it up perfectly, I just wanted to add my two cents.

Like it would have killed him to give Patriot fans some info on Brady.

I could care less about the press. As a Patriot fan and a Tom Brady fan I don't think it would have killed Belichick to say the surgery went fine and Tom is resting comfortably.

Every other team atleast announces the player had surgery and is fine. The pats would have said nothing. The only way we know is because the Globe.I know it is BB way but the fans just want to know he is ok.

Pats have released notes when appropriate. Many times we didnt even know brady had sports hernia or shoulder injury. They just release a note when they feel is the right time.
Fans want to know he is okay but doesnt BB want to know ? . Once he says he is okay to the press , the next question will be , when he was operated, where, why in LA, when is he expected to rehab in foxboro. all questions which are unecessary distraction for BB and team. He wants to avoid brady talk because more brady's shadow lingers on the season more it will take for the team to move on. He wants the team to forget brady for now.
EDIT:here is nugget from BB's call with SF media.
The juxt of it is, when is it time to remove key players from the game, late in the game when the score is lopsided?
"I think that's a tough question, it isn't like college where you have 80-90 guys in the game. You only have 45 players and you have three specialists, three quarterbacks so who do you want to take out? Most teams take four receivers in a game maybe five at the most, they have three receiver sets, somebody's got to play, you've got seven offensive linemen a the game you take one or two of them out, the other guys got to play. It's hard you just don't have enough guys to back up every position. Then you take one or two guys out so what message does that send to the guys that your leaving in there like 'we don't care about you, you go ahead and play but we're going to take somebody else out but we don't really care what happens to you. When one guy comes out the other one doesn't, what's that say?
i dont know if the pats announced when rodney underwent ACL surgery and maybe he is following the same policy. We all know brady is the franchise but BB doesnt like his injury differently than others. just his way of thinking i guess.

Sorry homers, but a word from Belichick today on how Brady came through the operation is not to much to ask. How does saying Brady's surgery went great and he is resting affect the Chargers game? If he died on the table how long would the control freak keep us from finding out? 1 month? 6 months?

He is a great coach but he does not give an eff about Patriot fans.

And that's not his job. He sees PR as a part of his job. Don't talk to him about something that isn't in the scope of his job. For all intents and purposes this team as a field unit has no Tom Brady, so when it's time for us to know something, why would Bill be the guy to hand it over?

His job is coaching the guys who are playing to win games and earn their pay-cheques. His job is not to molly-coddle the media. He needs Tom out of his mind as much as the players and he needs to keep focused. He also wants to talk about Football in those very brief PC's. Let the tabloids and paparazzi worry about Tom.

I'm honestly a bit curious about Tom and I suppose the Globe or the the Pat's site will share news when there is some. But more than that, I'm excited about the Chargers game and Tom, the next west-coast trip, and if Bill went sight-seeing aren't very interesting topics when I only get to hear from Bill for a few minutes a day.

Just saying.

Like JSn said, I think it's more that Belichick sees the papers and media as a source of Brady information and his press conferences are strictly for football. It's likely he doesn't have much more info to give than the papers have, and it's not like that stuff would really mean more coming from him.

I'm not totally against you, though. The injury policy of the team shows that BB is more than willing to deprive the fans of information (info that most other teams give freely) if it'll give the Pats any edge at all. I guess we just have to be prepared to accept that as Pats fans.

Yup, going on nine seasons, time to adjust.
Sorry homers...
Apology accepted whiner.

I know, I want a proven media friendly coach like Herm Edwards or Brian Billick...HEH! Billick's available! El Supremo Presidente B to B, I'll be your Press Secretary for the Brian Billick Fan Club, let's get Patriots Nation onboard with a real NFL Head Coach. :singing:

A vote for BB is a vote for Dynasty! Vote early and often!

I dont need BB to say anything. The Pats pr people could thou. Why dont they?

Have the hospital PR people? They would have first responsibility to make any general release - I believe the Globe spoke to them for official confirmation and used an unidentified "League" source for the story.

Gotta say, watching the video of the PC makes his answers even more sensible. The transcripts can make him seem a lot worse than he is when he's actually interacting.

Even though the information is routinely passed along by other teams, they sometimes get close to skirting the law.

Besides, it's too early to say whether the surgery was 'successful' or not. Brady had surgery, next step is rehab. We won't really know how successful the surgery was until the rehab is complete.

I think its one of those 'read-between-the-lines' things. He's telling his players not to think about Brady. The message to his players is a lot more important than his message to the media. BB and Brady have always done this.

well. everyone knew before the PC that the surgery had taken place. The question was asked not to get an answer but to fill in lines for the headline the next day in their papers " Belichick declines to comment on brady surgery" or "Belichick mum on surgery".
The media knows after so many yrs what answers they will get and its not that they didnt know the surgery happened. They just asked it so they can fill up more hatefilled columns and spark debates about how pats talk or dont talk about injuries although its been same since 8 yrs now.
