Felger's Report Card

I told you Felger is in rehab since losing the ESPN gig.

Wrong has officially taken over the original (Mannix) reportcard and nary a snide comment.

Patriots Report Card - BostonHerald.com

It's almost as if to some extent as the young guns in the media kvetch about backup QB's the old guard has rallied round the team somewhat supportively.

I felt for a while that Felger can offer some intelligent insight when he puts down his contrarian-on-the-radio hat. Maybe there is hope after all. And if I didn't know Borges' history, I'd consider him to be worth listening to an reading also.

a report card? does he think of himself to be some kind of teacher that
issues report cards? When has he ever taught anyone in the Patriots
organization anything?
good report or bad ...
..... the title makes me think Mr. Felger is rather presumptuous IMO.

Felger's Borges Jr. character was just that. He played a character for the radio to drum up rating for his show. He learned from the "best". Borges realized that he could write the best articles in the world, but if they toed the party line they were forgotten after they were read. When he became the Pats/Belichick hater, everyone talked about his articles. Felger learned from that.

Now that Felger doesn't have to carry a radio show or sell newspapers, he is moving back to his pre-ESPN days where he was fair and balanced and brought a lot of intelligent insight. In 2001 through 2004, he was where Mike Reiss is now in terms of respect and popularity.

His opinion is equal to any poster on this board.

BTW, Felger did point out something that has concerned me this last season and gone relatively unspoken. What has happened to Logan Mankins? I know the right side of the line gets all the negative attention from the media and the fans, but Mankins has been downright mediocre this year at least in pass protection.

Will Felger follow Borges' path and punchout a cripple also? Or compile others work and attach his name to it?

These report cards are ridiculous - how do you give the secondary such a high grade, yet fail but fail O'Neal? The secondary tightned up the second half no doubt - but it does not erase the bad first half play.

Cassell's grade is too high. He says that Casell has no "pocket presence" - and why should he? Um - because it's professional football and he's been practicing and preparing forever and quite frankly I donlt give a rats azz anymore that he hasn't played since high school.

Also, I have no doubt that his new "attitude" is mandated/scripted.

Funny, I thought Cassel's grade was too low. I would have given him a B+. The guy is a first year starter and starting to come on. Look at his numbers and Brady's at this point into his starting career and they aren't that much different. People have too high of expectations for the guy.

First off these report cards while ridiculous are no less ridiclous than the armchair critiques that litter this fine establishment... The secondary played better once they adjusted the entire defense and got aggressive and started pressuring up front. That was after the first quarter btw. From there on out they played exceptionally well against a Mike Martz offense including 3 picks save for a penalty induced late score. Average that out and you get... an above average grade.

Cassel (with one L) has no pocket presence relative to the best in the business. Same can be said for lots of several year veterans if you actually watch other NFL games like say MNF this week where the early favorite of some for NFL MVP got clobbered from his blindside and actually lost the ball and the game to boot... Cassel made 2 mistakes and one was not his fault while the other was not costly as our secondary returned the favor moments later... He led this offense to 30 points and a dominant time of posession game. Duh...

I wish Ian would mandate and script new "attitudes" here sometimes... only because rational is more interesting than ranting.

For the most part I agree with this "report card" - save for the comments I made in the post before.

I disagree about Cassel. Then again, his o-line wasn't doing him any favors. Slow reads, quick tuck and roll and poor pass protection make for a bad combination. He's "okay" - and that may just be good enough.

Sorry I am not a blind homer. I sometimes forget that is what is "MANDATED" here.....oh, and no booing. Booing is not allowed either ;)

it's amazing to me how these guys are always right when I agree with them.
