Who has been the most impressive player on the team at the 1/4 pole?

I go with Steven Gostkowski who has turned into a pro bowl type of kicker at this point in the season - Definately has come out from under the shadow from what was once Adam Vinatieri and has his own success now.

everytime gost hits those touchbacks and 49 yards this season i think WTF did we go for 4th and 14 in the SB ....:(

Gostkowski is a good choice, but I've also been impressed with Kevin Faulk.

I really think Belichick had not a lot of confidence in Gostkowski from long distance prior to this season - I think this year it has all changed and I could see those 4th and 14 type of situations being a no brainer for 3 points unless the Pats are getting blown out.

... u had to bring that up !!?? :( ...
... screw it ... not feeling like work anymore ... need to forget again :eat1:

Same here. Gost rocks and thinking about that makes me ill. That said, I think he was showing off his awesomeness in camp which is where the confidence in 40+ FG's is coming from.

I have to say Matt Cassel. We're 3-1, he's the 17th ranked QB in the league and has throw only one bad INT in about 4 games. This is a guy who more than half the board wanted released in the preseason.

i would call him average, managable, serviceable, but the word was impressive which he hasnt been

I think if Cassel has a very good game and pulls off the win this week against a team like the Chargers that is expected to go deep into the playoffs (even at 2-3 right now) then he will have changed the minds of a lot of the naysayers for now - Like me for example - I can'twait till Cassel plays a real team not named Jets,Chiefs or 49ers and this is the first BIG test for him to pass or fail.

faulk would be my second choice

I'll say Adalius Thomas. They've asked him to do an awful lot on that defense, play outside, inside - cover, pass rush, set the edge. He's done it all quite well save for some issues in coverage when he was outmatched by quality TEs.

His versatility has been huge so far. Think of the factors on that LB core - Tank Williams goes down, Pats have to adjust their plans for nickel packages; got a young Jerod Mayo in there at ILB; Bruschi is no longer suitable to play in nickel packages - they've asked AD to adjust and used his versatility to make up for these issues. That's why I think he's been the most important player on the team through 4 weeks.

How about Moss for not simply quitting?

I'll throw out Jerod Mayo.

Seconded. A rookie playing every down of the first 3 games of the season in a Bill Belichick defense?

Pencil me in for 'impressed'. He's certainly had a few growing pains, but in the main he's looked very impressive. Very excited about him.

Great post. Hopefully we'll see him inside with Mayo at some point this season and Crable getting a few reps at OLB once he's grown comfortable at setting the edge etc.

Kevin Faulk.

No question. He hasn't participated in a huge number of plays, but a high proportion have been crucial and I can't remember one where he wasn't very effective.

That really shouldn't be considered an outstanding quality for someone getting paid to do a job.

I'm glad he hasn't, but there would be no valid excuse imo, if he did.

I think Faulk is getting his Trow Brown on.

Matt Cassel, Ellis Hobbs and Richard Seymour.....

No single player has had me saying "Wow", but I will say that Ghostowski is probably the one who has impressed me most.

LOL, u cant say kevin faulk...

i think if u did, he would pretty much get the nod like every time...

the guy takes us out of tight spots, and makes us win (even when brady was healthy)

he is ALWAYS one of the most impressive players on our team, so i kind of dont think about him when these questions come up...

impressive? ill give it to Gost as well, Special teams is important, as is field position, and with the defense still finding itself, Gost is giving them amazing breathers
