Red Sox send Angels home again - Los Angeles Times

LOL. lackey says the better team lost eventhough they could only put together 1 win. Texeria says he didn't make plans for his family until haloween because he expected to be playing baseball until then.

You mean the pitcher who showed displeasure at his teamates when they made errors on the field. Previous to this series, I thought that the Angels were the better team. How can anyone make that argument after seeing those four games. They have a very weak hitting team that commits errors routinely. How many errors did the Sox commit in those four games? How many great defensive plays did the Sox make. Again, my perception was that K-Rod was the best closer in the game. Not so sure anymore. Yea, he had all those saves, but I don't want my closer loading up the bases at the end of the game.
Angels are the better team, you betcha, them and the Rockies of last year.

There were much better vibes for the Angels in the eighth, when Hunter followed two-out walks to Mark Teixeira and Vladimir Guerrero and catcher Jason Varitek's passed ball with a two-run single to right off reliever Dustin Masterson to tie the score,

Dustin Masterson?

"We're a better team than they are"... Where have Boston fans heard that before? Let's see.. Raiders.. Chargers.. Lakers... Now the Angels.. All California teams.. making excuses for sucking.. Bunch of whiny ****ies..

I don't see how, going into the series or now that it's over, people continue to ignore the fact that Boston has better pitching than LAAAAA. Pitching won this series. Lester is clearly the best starter on either team and Papelbon is clearly the best reliever.

Heh. First thing I think of is the Steelers. I guess they belong in California.

There is a weird thin about California and whining after a loss.

That being said, I can't blame Lackey for being pissed at his teammates, he was pretty solid and they sucked.

i think you were right after all. i think the play by play clown at tbs is anti redsox or pro angels. he got a hard on when the angels tied the game

I love guys like him who slump their shoulders when a guy makes an error or doesn't get to a ball when he should have.

Funny, I didn't see any of the position players pulling that crap when Lackey gave up the two run bomb to Bay in game 1.

Grow a pair Lackey.

Just another example of why i hate Hunter so much. Ignorance and arrogance the guys a punk and im so happy to see him have another failed season couldnt happen to a better guy. As for Lackey, what a peice of Sh!t that guy is. Unbelievable really what an awful AWFUL team mate. Its fine to vent frustration but this guy is just ridiculous I just cant stand a team that shows no sportsmanship. despicable. Im actually so mad after reading this but then i think hey guess whose still playing baseball. Maybe he should worry about his performance rather than that of the opposing team or his fielders. I never saw any of the angels players show disgust when he walked a guy or gave up a hit or when he left a fat one over the plate for Bay to obliterate.

The guys a putz not worth the time it took to right this post. Good ridence to the mighty angels enjoy your front row tickets to Anaheim Duck games maybe they can teach you how to be proffesionals

I don't mind a player across any sport claiming they are a better team than a team that just beat them if it is a one-off game/grand final etc, however when it is a series with a designated amount of games needed to be won, that's where this excuse irks me.

The better team does not lose 3 from 4 games, 2 at home.

As far as the tag out at third, I think the Sox got away with one.
At first I thought it's like a touchdown and you only need to break the plane and the play is over with the score.
Than I was reminded that at home plate collisions, the catcher has to maintain possession and show the ump the ball, so.....

The 2006 world champion Cardinals may have been the worst team in those playoffs. Sometimes the lesser team wins, especially in a short series in baseball where the difference between the best and worst teams can be so little (how many times have we seen the Royals sweep the Yanks or Sox the past few years?). In this instance I think Lackey's wrong, but the notion isn't so ridiculous.

Except that the tag didn't take place at home. The rules are clearly enforced differently at home than other bases. Albert Belle was suspended for taking down a second baseman even though the same regularly happens to catchers.

And a league official/head umpire/whatever even commented afterwards that there are no parallels to football here. You don't need to maintain possession. As long as possession exists at the time of the tag (which it did) then the tag is valid.

Well thank you, TomBradysgoat. My Red Sox conscience is clear now.
However I would be more comfortable with a link.

Umpire Tim Welke disagreed, insisting that Varitek held the ball long enough to tag out Willits even though it popped loose when the catcher hit the ground. This was not a case where the ground can't cause a fumble.

"That's the NFL," said Steve Palermo, the Major League supervisor of umpires, after the game. "We don't have that in baseball. He had possession of the ball when he made the tag."
